Generational’s Digital Logbook Brings EV Transparency to Used-Car Market

THE VOLT VOTES

Generational has unveiled its new digital Logbook tool, aimed at helping automotive retailers bridge the confidence gap between consumer interest in electric vehicles and actual purchase consideration.

The tool makes its debut with Available Car, the East Midlands’ largest used-car supermarket, and can be embedded directly into vehicle listing pages.

Its purpose is to give prospective buyers clear, vehicle-specific insights on battery health, real-world range, charging, and running costs, before they even make an enquiry or reserve a car.

Despite rising volumes of used EVs, many customers still hesitate, often asking practical questions about range, battery longevity, charging access, and cost. According to Cox Automotive’s 2026 UK EV Adoption and Perceptions Report, these remain the biggest barriers to adoption. The survey of 2,000 UK drivers revealed that 65% believe EVs are more expensive to own than petrol cars, even though many EV owners report lower maintenance costs.

Generational’s Logbook tackles those concerns head-on. At its core is the Battery Health Report, which includes a Battery Health Certificate, State of Health percentage, original battery capacity, and warranty details giving buyers a transparent view of the EV’s most valuable component.digital Logbook tool Launched By Generational The Volt Post1

The tool also features an interactive EV Range Map, turning quoted mileage into a practical visualization of where a customer could travel on a full charge. Users can toggle by season, plan one-way or return trips, and view charging points relative to their location.

To address cost concerns, the Running Cost Calculator lets customers compare EV driving expenses against petrol cars, adjusting for mileage, charging habits, and fuel prices. A separate calculator estimates weekly charging time, helping demystify EV ownership.

Generational’s own 2025 Battery Performance Index, based on 8,000 UK battery assessments, found average battery health at 95.15% with many older, high-mileage EVs performing strongly. But the Index also showed greater variance with age, underscoring the need for transparent, case-by-case testing.

For retailers, the Logbook offers more than just data. By presenting complex EV ownership information in a simple, accessible format, it strengthens merchandising, boosts conversion, and generates higher-quality enquiries.

This launch builds on Generational’s wider mission to support a thriving used EV market by making battery condition and ownership data more transparent. Its existing solutions already help retailers, leasing firms, and remarketers certify battery health and range, enabling more accurate valuations, stronger residuals, and greater confidence in buying and selling used EVs.

Leadership Comments

Oliver Phillpott, CEO of Generational, said: “The used EV market is in need of more information for car-buyers. Customers are interested in electric vehicles, but they often need clearer answers around battery life, range, charging and cost before they feel ready to take the next step. For instance, something as simple as seeing how far you can actually get on 200 miles’ range, when viewed on a map, really helps break down confidence barriers.

“The Generational Logbook is designed to put those answers directly on the vehicle listing, where customers are spending time weighing up their options. By bringing together battery health, warranty detail, usable range, charging context and running costs in one digital tool, retailers can make EV ownership feel more tangible before a customer even walks into a showroom.”

Steve Wiseman, Operations Manager at Available Car, said: “Used EVs are still new territory for a lot of customers, so it’s understandable that people want a bit more information before they commit. For us, the value of Generational’s Logbook is that it gives customers useful, vehicle-specific information at the point they are already browsing. It should help them understand what a particular EV might cost to run, how far it will go and what condition the battery is in. That can only help people feel more comfortable and better informed when they are deciding which used EV is right for them.”

Phillpott added: “Used-EV customers need the same level of confidence they have come to expect from service history, mileage verification and vehicle checks. The difference is that EVs require a new layer of information, from battery condition and usable range to charging behaviour and running costs.

“The retailers that can make that information clear online will be best placed to convert EV interest into sales. The Generational Logbook gives them the tool to do exactly that.”
