British EV technology company Electrogenic has acquired the business of TREMEC Electric GT, establishing a permanent base in the United States as it expands its North American operations.
The acquisition gives Electrogenic a technical centre in Huntington Beach, California, and strengthens its position in the electric vehicle powertrain market.
The new US base will allow the company to support a larger customer base, expand its manufacturing capabilities and provide local service to partners across North America.
Supporting North American growth
Electrogenic has recorded sustained growth in North America in recent years. The company said its new US headquarters will help accelerate product development, support its software-defined vehicle (SDV) programme and improve technical assistance for customers and partner installers.
“We are proud to announce the latest stage in our US expansion with this acquisition,” said Steve Drummond, CEO of Electrogenic. “The USA is our most important market, and we wanted to provide additional support to our US partners while establishing a strategic base in California.”
He added that the acquisition would help Electrogenic accelerate new products, expand its manufacturing options and strengthen its service offering for customers across the region.
TREMEC Electric GT expertise
Founded in 2014, TREMEC Electric GT specialises in the design and integration of EV powertrain systems. The company has developed turnkey electric powertrains for low-volume manufacturers and specialist vehicle builders, while also serving the aftermarket conversion market with its e-Crate systems.
These plug-and-play packages are designed to electrify a wide range of vehicles while retaining their existing frame, body, driveline and suspension. The company’s previous projects have included conversions of classic Porsches and American muscle cars.
According to Electrogenic, TREMEC Electric GT’s growth has been constrained by the need for advanced vehicle software and control systems to maximise the performance of its powertrains. Electrogenic’s proprietary software and control technology is expected to complement the business’s existing hardware and integration expertise.
Expanding technology and manufacturing
The acquisition adds a permanent US base to Electrogenic’s headquarters in Oxford, UK, and its growing global network of partner installers.
“The teams have been working together for some time, so the acquisition was a natural evolution for TREMEC, Electrogenic and the Huntington Beach team,” Drummond said. “Electrogenic gains a technical centre of expertise on the US West Coast, while the Huntington Beach specialists gain access to new technology and capabilities.”
He said both companies would continue to explore opportunities in advanced technology and manufacturing, adding that the development would provide greater support to Electrogenic’s North American partner-installers.
British EV technology
Electrogenic develops and manufactures its EV powertrain technology in-house. Its portfolio includes bespoke vehicle conversions, drop-in conversion kits, turnkey powertrains for vehicle manufacturers and solutions for defence applications.
The company’s engineering capabilities cover vehicle control software, microprocessor design, driver interfaces, vehicle body control and digital dashboards. Its systems also use high-density battery-pack technology and compact in-line and transverse reduction gearboxes manufactured in the UK.
These packaging solutions are designed to preserve a vehicle’s original structure and architecture without cutting or drilling. Electrogenic said its conversions are entirely reversible.
