Infineon Enable Designers to Reach Highest Level of Security

Infineon Technologies has revealed that its latest PSOC Edge E8x MCU product family is specifically engineered to meet the top certification level offered by the Platform Security Architecture (PSA) Certified program.

This certification, known as PSA Certified Level 4, is achieved through the implementation of an on-chip, hardware-isolated enclave in all PSOC Edge E8x devices. This enclave ensures secure boot, key storage, and crypto operations, making embedded security a crucial component in the deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

“By aspiring to achieve this robust embedded security certification, IoT designers for edge applications such as wearables and smart home applications can be confident their products can achieve highest levels of security,” said Erik Wood, Senior Director Product Security for IoT, Computer and Wireless business, Infineon Technologies. “Integrating hardware security on the MCU also unlocks new edge computing markets such as printers and payment terminals that previously required discrete security chips. As a security leader, we are committed to enabling designers to reach the highest level of security for all applications.”

What is PSA Certified and its Importance

PSA Certified was developed by Arm and its industry collaborators in 2019 as a security framework.

PSA Certified offers design recommendations and impartial security assessments conducted by third-party laboratories to ensure that connected devices are constructed on a Root of Trust.

MCU manufacturers who obtain PSA Certified certifications can extend them throughout the supply chain, enabling device manufacturers and application developers to leverage the certification when launching products in the market.

“Connected device security is critical to scaling IoT deployments, and something that Arm and its ecosystem is committed to continuing to drive through initiatives like PSA Certified,” said David Maidment, Senior Director, Secure Devices Ecosystem at Arm. “We applaud Infineon’s ongoing commitment to robust device security by striving to achieve PSA Certified Level 4 iSE/SE for its new family of MCUs.”

PSoC Edge Family

Infineon’s new line of microcontrollers PSOC Edge E81, E83, and E84 are built on the powerful Arm Cortex-M55 architecture, which includes support for Helium DSP and is paired with Arm Ethos-U55.

PSoC Edge Family Now with PSA Certified Level 4 Features:

  • Cortex-M33 paired with Infineon’s NNLite, a specialized hardware accelerator designed to enhance the performance of neural networks.
  • These MCUs have been specifically optimized for machine-learning applications that run on connected systems at the Internet edge.
  • The PSOC Edge series benefits from Infineon’s ModusToolbox software platform.
  • This platform offers a comprehensive collection of development tools, libraries, and embedded runtime assets, ensuring a flexible and seamless development experience.
  • ModusToolbox supports a wide range of use cases, including consumer IoT, industrial applications, smart home devices, wearables, and more.
  • By leveraging the fully-integrated system-on-chip design, designers can easily incorporate advanced artificial intelligence capabilities into their IoT and consumer applications.
