Thermo Fisher Scientific unveils new mode for rapid analysis of aluminum and magnesium with handheld XRF analyzer.
Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced a new capability – Light Metal Quick Sort – for the Thermo Scientific™ Niton™ XL5 Plus handheld XRF analyzer.
With this new handheld XRF analyzer, Thermo Fisher Scientific enables ultra-fast analysis of aluminum and magnesium alloy grades in under two seconds.
This new mode, which can also identify high-value alloy families of other light metals – including stainless steel, nickel, cobalt, copper, and titanium – significantly reduces analysis times over traditional methods, offering a path to improved efficiency for scrap metal operations.
Product overview:
The Niton XL5 Plus handheld XRF analyzer is the lightest, smallest and most powerful handheld XRF (HHXRF) analyzer available for elemental determination in the field. It forms part of Thermo Fisher’s industry-leading family of rugged Niton HHXRF analyzers, which offers non-destructive analysis of metals and alloys in seconds. The General Metals mode on the Niton XL5 Plus HHXRF analyzer has been expanded to include an enhanced ability to detect low levels of nickel in low alloy steels, along with a new mode for ultra-fast light metals analysis.
The new Light Metal Quick Sort mode provides accurate analysis of magnesium – down to concentrat Operators can now benefit from ultra-fast identification and analysis of light metals without compromising on accuracy, giving them a powerful tool as they seek to increase efficiency, sustainability and profits while helping to avoid product refusal from buyers.
Key features and benefits of the new Light Metal Quick Sort mode:
- Enables the identification of aluminum and magnesium grades in under 2 seconds.
- Allows the detection of magnesium at concentrations as low as 0.5 %.
- Enables the identification of various alloy families, such as stainless steel, nickel, cobalt, copper, titanium, and others.
- High speed, accurate analysis to aid metal recycling operations.
