Rohde & Schwarz’s MXO Series oscilloscopes are now supported by Chroma’s Power Conversion Device Automated Test System Model 8000 (ATS 8000), giving power electronics engineers access to advanced real-time waveform capture capabilities during automated testing and integration.

The integration comes as AI-driven data centers push demand for higher-power, higher-density power delivery systems. Power supply vendors are developing new solutions for increasingly complex architectures, including the latest high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) systems.
These designs require more sophisticated testing across multiple power modules, battery backup units (BBUs), and capacitor backup units (CBUs), often operating in series or parallel configurations.
Chroma’s ATS 8000 is designed to automate the testing of power conversion devices and power supplies. Its support for Rohde & Schwarz MXO Series oscilloscopes adds another hardware option for engineers carrying out waveform capture, debugging, calibration, and other automated test procedures.
Improved accuracy for high-voltage testing
The next-generation MXO Series is built around Rohde & Schwarz’s MXO-EP processing ASIC technology.
The oscilloscopes can capture waveforms at rates of up to 4.5 million acquisitions per second, helping reduce measurement blind spots and provide a more accurate view of real-time signal behavior.
Advanced digital triggering, adjustable sensitivity, and exceptionally low trigger jitter enable the MXO Series to detect small signal anomalies with pixel-level trigger accuracy. In HD mode, the oscilloscopes offer resolution of up to 18 bits and input sensitivity as low as 0.5 mV/div.
Up to 24 synchronized channels
High-density power delivery systems in AI data centers may include multiple power modules, BBUs, and CBUs within a single power rack. As a result, engineers may need to measure more than eight channels simultaneously.
MXO Series models are available with up to eight channels and can be synchronized across multiple instruments using Rohde & Schwarz’s ScopeSync architecture.
In a primary-secondary setup, several instruments can operate with up to 24 synchronized channels. This supports complex debugging tasks and helps engineers correlate manual measurements with automated test results.
Flexible automation for production environments
Chroma’s PowerPro 5 control software allows engineers to tailor ATS 8000 test systems to specific applications. The platform can also run external programs written in C# or Python as part of the test sequence.
This flexibility enables users to add custom analysis steps, including decoding control frames from serial communication buses and applying product-specific calibration routines.
The approach is designed to support both real-world power system development and production-line testing.
