At MWC Shanghai 2026, Rohde & Schwarz and the China Mobile Research Institute unveiled Generative AI Testing for GenAI applications, designed to measure end-user experience under real network conditions. Built around the CMX500 5G one-box signaling tester, the Generative AI Testing solution offers a more quantitative way to evaluate how generative AI performs across different wireless environments.

Generative AI services are expanding quickly across devices such as smartphones, AI glasses and robots, but testing methods have not kept pace. The industry still lacks mature metrics and standard frameworks for judging user experience, which is why this joint demonstration is drawing attention from researchers and network developers alike.
The testbed places the large language model on the server or in the cloud, while the CMX500 creates a radio connection with a smart terminal running the client-side test app. It can simulate a wide range of network conditions by adjusting latency, jitter, fading models and RF impairments, allowing engineers to measure metrics such as Time to First Token and Tokens Per Second.
That data is then collected and analyzed through host PC software, which generates charts for comparison and optimization. The setup gives developers a practical way to assess generative AI performance under different network scenarios and offers useful guidance for future network tuning.
At the center of the demonstration is the CMX500, a 5G one-box tester that supports SA and NSA architectures, FR1 through FR3, and includes an IMS server for one-stop testing. Rohde & Schwarz says the platform is already a key tool for 5G-Advanced and 6G research and development.
Visitors were able to see the joint demonstration at China Mobile’s 6G Zone in Hall 3, N3E60, where experts from both companies discussed how the solution could help shape generative AI testing for future networks.
