Infineon Technologies and LS ELECTRIC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together on high-efficiency DC power infrastructure solutions for AI data centers and next-generation power grids.

The partnership comes at a time when AI workloads, expanding data center capacity and the build-out of digital infrastructure are sharply increasing power demand and putting new pressure on grid efficiency.
As power grids evolve into more complex, distributed networks, DC-based power systems are gaining traction as a way to improve efficiency and simplify integration of renewable and storage resources.
Against this backdrop, Infineon and LS ELECTRIC will jointly develop key technologies aimed at boosting energy efficiency, system performance and scalability in next-generation power infrastructure.
The collaboration will focus on several core DC infrastructure areas, including power conversion systems for energy storage systems, solid-state transformers (SSTs) and solid-state circuit breakers (SSCBs). SSTs are advanced, semiconductor-based power conversion devices that can be up to 30 percent smaller and lighter than conventional copper and iron-based transformers, while delivering higher efficiency.
SSCBs, meanwhile, use semiconductors and intelligent algorithms to protect electrical circuits from short circuits and overloads. Operating at microsecond-scale response times, they can quickly interrupt current flow to enhance system stability and protection, a capability that is increasingly critical in high-density power environments such as AI data centers.
Through this MoU, Infineon will contribute its broad semiconductor portfolio, including power devices, microcontrollers and power control solutions, to support the development of high-efficiency, high-performance DC power infrastructure systems.
LS ELECTRIC will apply its expertise in power systems and industrial automation to lead system-level integration and implementation.
The two companies plan to align their technology roadmaps and advance co-development projects to capture emerging opportunities in next-generation energy infrastructure, with a particular focus on AI-driven data centers and DC-centric power networks.
