Panasonic Boosts Smart Building Sensing with Next-Gen PaPIRs+ PIR Sensors

THE VOLT VOTES

Panasonic Industry Europe is expanding its PIR motion sensor lineup with PaPIRs+, the next generation of its widely adopted sensing technology. Built for the growing needs of smart buildings and automated infrastructure, PaPIRs+ brings a noticeable boost in detection performance while keeping the simplicity and reliability that PIR sensors are known for.

At the heart of this upgrade is a redesigned pyroelectric element. With larger and more optimized sensing structures, the new sensors can absorb more infrared radiation delivering up to twice the sensitivity of conventional PaPIRs devices.

The result is more accurate detection of even subtle movements across wider areas and longer distances, with fewer blind spots.

This improved performance makes PaPIRs+ a strong fit for applications where precision matters, such as lighting control, HVAC systems, and intelligent building management. Importantly, it achieves this without significantly increasing system costs, making it a practical upgrade for a wide range of deployments.

Panasonic has also introduced a new Flat Wide Detection Type, featuring an ultra-slim lens and a broader field of view. The design is both high-performing and discreet, allowing the sensors to blend seamlessly into environments like offices, schools, and homes where aesthetics are just as important as functionality.

With PaPIRs+, Panasonic continues to strengthen its position in the PIR sensing market, offering flexible, high-performance solutions that can adapt to different application needs.

“PaPIRs+ is not intended to replace our proven PaPIRs technology. It is designed to extend it,” explains Robert Spiegler, Lead Product Manager at Panasonic in Ottobrunn, Germany. “Conventional PaPIRs sensors continue to be an excellent choice for standard applications where reliable motion detection is required. With PaPIRs+, we provide an additional high-performance option for customers who need enhanced sensitivity, wider coverage, or more demanding detection capabilities.
