HMS Networks has introduced its first Automotive Ethernet product under the PEAK brand, marking a clear step into in vehicle network communication. The new PAE Media Converter is a compact and rugged device that bridges Automotive Ethernet, including 100BASE T1 and 1000BASE T1, with standard Ethernet networks such as 100BASE TX and 1000BASE T.

It is designed to simplify development, testing, and validation across both 100 Mbit per second and 1,000 Mbit per second environments.
The device is built with automotive testing challenges in mind. One of its standout capabilities is realistic fault simulation, allowing engineers to physically interrupt the Automotive Ethernet link. This can be triggered directly on the device or through an API, making it easier to run controlled and repeatable test scenarios during development and validation.
From a hardware perspective, the PAE Media Converter is designed for real world engineering use. It features a durable aluminum enclosure and operates reliably across a wide temperature range from minus 40 degrees Celsius to plus 85 degrees Celsius.
Built in LED indicators provide immediate feedback on link status, signal quality, and errors, enabling quick diagnostics without the need for additional tools.
Integration into existing setups is straightforward. The converter connects seamlessly with standard Ethernet tools, allowing teams to use it immediately within their current workflows. It also includes an integrated frame generator for link validation and wiring tests, helping engineers verify network performance more efficiently.
To support different deployment scenarios, HMS offers a range of accessories, including H MTD and MATEnet cables for Automotive Ethernet connectivity, along with a DIN rail adapter for test benches and industrial environments. This flexibility helps reduce setup time and adapt quickly to different testing requirements.
On the technical side, the device supports conversion between Automotive Ethernet and standard Ethernet across both 100 and 1,000 Mbit speeds, with hardware based configuration using DIP switches.
It supports H MTD and MATEnet connectors, offers power options via USB C or 6 to 36V DC, and includes an optional USB API for automation and system integration. The design also ensures compatibility with standard Ethernet tools and infrastructure, making it easy to incorporate into existing development and validation environments.
Overall, the PAE Media Converter gives automotive engineers a practical and flexible tool to bridge networks, streamline testing, and improve validation workflows as Automotive Ethernet adoption continues to grow.
Leadership Comments
“We empower engineers with simple and powerful tools. With our unique physical link interruption functionality, we enable them to create real fault conditions in test scenarios without unplugging the device – saving time and wear”, explains Kristofer Koch, Product Manager at HMS Networks. At the same time, the device combines H-MTD and MATEnet connector support in one unit, reducing hardware complexity, investment risks, and enabling faster setups.
“With only one device we cover the two de facto connection standards in the market – with no additional adapters needed”, says Koch. In terms of useability, the PAE-Media Converter provides what engineers enjoy: true plug-and-play operation with optional API control and a selectable (via DIP switch) dual-speed conversion (100/1000BASE-T1). The benefit of this hardware-only configuration is that engineers can start immediately without software, while still having the flexibility to integrate the device into automated test environments.
“Automotive Ethernet – especially within the 100/1,000 Mbit/s domains – is a key technology for software-defined vehicles”, says Koch, highlighting PEAK’s strategic move into this emerging market. “With our strong background in CAN, PEAK has long been a proven expert in in-vehicle communication. With the addition of Automotive Ethernet, we are now extending this expertise to cover the full IVN landscape. For engineers, this means one reliable partner across both technologies. With the PAE-Media Converter, we provide a first simple yet powerful tool to bridge development and testing environments – with a lot more to come in the future.”
