Western Digital at Computex 2026 is using its presence to redefine AI infrastructure, stating it isn’t just about compute anymore, it’s fundamentally about data.

Every AI workload, from training and inference to emerging agentic and physical AI systems, continuously generates data that doesn’t go away. It persists, compounds, and expands over time, pushing organizations to rethink how they design infrastructure for long-term scale.
That shift is bringing a core challenge into focus. As data grows exponentially, businesses must manage it in a way that balances performance with cost efficiency.
How that data is stored, accessed, and moved will determine whether AI delivers sustained value or becomes an unsustainable expense.
Western Digital at Computex 2026 is addressing this reality through its keynote session, live demonstrations, and a slate of new storage innovations.
Forum Session: Reinventing Storage for AI at Scale
Ahmed Shihab, Chief Product Officer at Western Digital, will take the stage on June 4, 2026 (11:00–11:25 AM, TaiNex 2, Room 701).
His session will explore why AI infrastructure can no longer be designed around compute performance alone, and how persistent data growth, tiered architectures, and infrastructure economics are now shaping AI at scale.
Western Digital at Computex 2026
At Booth #R1308 (Hall 2, Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, June 2–5), Western Digital is showcasing how a data-centric architecture comes together in practice.
- The exhibit features the Ultrastar HDD portfolio, spanning UltraSMR, ePMR, and HAMR technologies. Western Digital is also highlighting two advanced HDD innovations: High Bandwidth Drive Technology and Dual Pivot Drive Technology. Together, these are projected to deliver up to 4x higher throughput while maintaining current I/O per TB levels, reducing the need to scale SSD deployments or redesign infrastructure.
- Platform solutions on display include Ultrastar Data Series JBODs, OpenFlex EBOF, and the RapidFlex NVMe-oF controller. These systems are built to help cloud, neo-cloud, and HPC environments scale efficiently by improving performance, reducing costs, and accelerating time to value. The new Ultrastar Data 3000 series JBODs are designed for AI-driven data growth, featuring ArcticFlow multizone cooling and IsoVibe vibration isolation technologies that can reduce drive return rates by up to 62%. With 12 ports of 24 Gb/s SAS-4 connectivity, the platform is built to keep up with rising bandwidth demands.
- Western Digital is also showcasing tiered storage architectures, including deployments based on Ceph and collaborations with IBM Storage Scale and XTAO. These approaches align performance and cost with different stages of the AI data lifecycle, helping improve GPU utilization while lowering overall infrastructure costs.
- The company’s WD Color portfolio, including WD Gold, WD Red, and WD Purple, will be on display alongside the rebranded G-DRIVE family of external storage solutions designed for content creators.
Taken together, these innovations position Western Digital as a key enabler of AI infrastructure focused on ensuring data can be stored, moved, and scaled efficiently across increasingly complex environments.
Leadership Comments
“The shift toward AI-driven workloads is placing new demands on storage systems, requiring higher throughput, greater capacity, and improved reliability across multiple tiers,” said John Chen, Vice President at TRENDFOCUS. “WD’s advancements in HDD and platform technologies reflect the kinds of innovations needed to support increasingly
