Pepperl+Fuchs is expanding its Ethernet-APL portfolio with the latest version of the FieldConnex Ethernet-APL Field Switch, shown at SPS 2025. The switch is designed to give operators and engineers better visibility of their process plants, from initial commissioning through to ongoing operation and maintenance.

During commissioning, Ethernet-APL Field Switch enables fast detection of the switch and all connected field devices, which appear directly in the system without extensive manual setup.
Installers can immediately verify and document installation quality using an automatically generated commissioning report, helping to establish stable communication early in the project.
Configuration work is handled remotely: parameters for both switches and field devices can be set centrally and stored in the asset management system. This central documentation supports error reduction, particularly when devices need to be replaced, and helps different teams coordinate their work more easily.
The asset management system can also log diagnostic data from the switch, including its self-monitoring functions and indicators of installation quality. Because the switch reports changes in real time, maintenance staff can respond in a focused way to emerging issues while keeping process interruptions to a minimum.
As Ethernet-APL field switches connect control systems with field-level instrumentation, they serve as an interface between IT and OT.
This integration enables more detailed access to device and process data, supporting a shift from reactive troubleshooting to more predictive and proactive maintenance strategies. In practice, this can help reduce unplanned downtime and improve overall plant productivity.
