In order to compress biogas during the upgrading process to biomethane, SAFE S.p.A. introduces a novel package with a screw compressor. The unit’s design maximizes energy efficiency, guarantees continuous operation around the clock, and streamlines plant integration. To cut down on installation and commissioning periods, it is offered in a containerized “plug & play” configuration.
It will be on display live at SAFE’s stand D5/114-215 at Ecomondo, Rimini Expo Centre, from November 4–7, 2025.
Key Features Include:
- The new SAFE Screw compressor has been developed to operate under very low suction conditions (100–500 mbar),
- Maintaining stable performance with variable flow rates up to 2,500 Sm³/h and discharge pressures up to 16 barg,
- The new screw-compressor range spans installed power up to 400 kW,
- Suitable for integration in both small- and large-scale plants.
- The water-cooling system (with SAFE-supplied air cooler — installable on the top of the container or at ground level alongside it) and the oil-flooded screw configuration, with triple gas filtration, ensure thermal stability, reliability and service quality.
- The sound level of the compression package in operation is limited to 60 dB(A) @1 m.
The compressor body on a slide-out removable skid, which allows for quick access and replacement during maintenance services, is the unit’s central component. The goal of machine control is to maximize efficiency.
Suction pressure is maintained, motor speed is automatically adjusted, and a recirculation line is used to manage processes with fluctuating pressures and flow rates, therefore expanding the operational envelope.
A heat recovery system, outlet biogas temperature control, and sub-cooling with a chiller are among the options. In order to improve overall service efficiency and make integration with plant interfaces easier, these extensions were created and made accessible.
