First SerDes Standard to Enter Mass Production, Global Automotive OEM Opts

Velinktech, a MIPI contributor member firm, has revealed that Lynk & Co., a worldwide automotive brand founded in 2016 as a joint venture between Geely Auto Group and Volvo Car Group, has begun mass producing their high-speed automotive SerDes chipset in the 06 Relive compact SUV model.Velinktech reveals Lynk & Co automotive SerDes chipset

A global automotive OEM has installed the first automotive-grade SerDes chipset based on the industry-leading MIPI A-PHY specification, according to the MIPI Alliance. A-PHY has achieved this milestone, making it the first automobile SerDes system that is industry-standardized to go into mass production.

Velinktech, a MIPI contributor member firm, has revealed that Lynk & Co., a worldwide automotive brand founded in 2016 as a joint venture between Geely Auto Group and Volvo Car Group, has begun mass producing their high-speed automotive SerDes chipset in the 06 Relive compact SUV model.

Following Valens Semiconductor’s previously announced A-PHY design victories, Velinktech has announced mass production. A-PHY chipsets have been chosen by a family of European OEMs to be integrated into a number of vehicle types, with production slated to begin in 2026.

Additionally, Valens‘ A-PHY-compliant chipsets were chosen by Mobileye, a market leader in ADAS and autonomous systems, to supply the in-car sensor-to-compute connectivity infrastructure for its Mobileye EyeQ 6 High automated and autonomous production initiatives, which are currently in progress with a number of international automakers.Velinktech reveals Lynk & Co automotive SerDes chipset 1

In order to support next-generation ADAS, ADS, and SDV-centralized compute applications, MIPI A-PHY offers automotive supply chain vendors and OEMs worldwide a highly dependable long-reach (up to 15 meters) standardized solution for high-speed image sensor and display connectivity.

With integrated functional safety and security, it serves as the cornerstone of MIPI’s Automotive SerDes Solutions (MASS) end-to-end framework and supports a wide range of higher layer protocols. A-PHY v.1.0, which is accessible as IEEE 2977-2021, was also accepted as an IEEE standard.

Furthermore, no extra essential patent licenses are needed for implementation, and MIPI members benefit from royalty-free licenses given by all other members to patent claims that are required to implement the specification.

Leadership Comments

“MIPI A-PHY is widely regarded by the industry as an ideal physical layer specification to meet the current and future needs of L3+ autonomous driving and immersive smart cockpits. As the world’s first open automotive SerDes standard, A-PHY enables the creation of compatible yet differentiated products by silicon vendors such as Velinktech, and provides car manufacturers with greater flexibility when it comes to cost, features and supply chain management,” said Evan Zhang, CEO, Velinktech.”Velinktech reveals Lynk & Co automotive SerDes chipset

“Because of the maturity of the A-PHY specification, we were able to rapidly develop a reliable automotive-grade chip that meets rigorous automotive regulations and can be mass-produced and deployed in cars, which is a huge accomplishment. We are proud to have achieved this important milestone and look forward to more OEM design wins in the months ahead, concludes said Evan.”
