RIR Power Electronics Relaunches with New SiC Plant

RIR Power Electronics, a longstanding player in high-power semiconductor solutions, has unveiled a new identity in tandem with its strategic relaunch, marking a turning point for India’s advanced power electronics manufacturing landscape.New Bhubaneswar facility for SiC MOSFETs, IGBTs by RIR

Bhubaneswa facility: SiC Ambitions Set for Global Scale

The company’s Bhubaneswar facility is poised to emerge as a key production hub for SiC MOSFETs, IGBTs, and diodes, targeting voltage ratings from 3.3 kV up to 20 kV.

With SiC wafer epitaxy slated to begin in March 2026, RIR is building the infrastructure for phased commercial rollouts—underscoring a commitment to scale while fostering more than 500 specialized jobs in R&D, engineering, and operations.

Sector Impact: Electrification and Next-Gen Reliability

Advanced SiC device manufacturing like SiC MOSFETs, IGBTs drives the company’s mission to solve inefficiencies that have long hampered the development of electrified transport, renewable energy, defense, aerospace, medical, and industrial equipment.

These semiconductors are intended to deliver higher energy efficiency, minimized losses, faster EV charging, and reliable operation even under extreme conditions.

Industry Ecosystem: Strategic Alliances and Regional Support

Backed by fiscal incentives from the Government of Odisha, RIR is positioning itself to accelerate local industry growth and technology self-sufficiency.

Collaboration with Pro Asia Semiconductor Corporation (Taiwan) further expands its product range, notably with 1200V SiC diodes, supporting domestic supply chains and enabling higher performance power solutions.

Leadership Perspective: Legacy, Vision, and Ecosystem Building

RIR’s Chairman, Dr. Harshad Mehta, emphasized the long-term perspective of the revamp:
“Our transformation is not just about capacity building, it’s about capability building. With Silicon Carbide, we are creating the backbone for technologies that will define the next 50 years.”

CMO Perry Schugart reinforced this generational vision:
“India’s semiconductor story isn’t a sprint. It’s a generational relay and we’ve been running our legs for over five decades. We are committed to delivering solutions that not only meet today’s demands but also anticipate the challenges of tomorrow with this new Bhubaneswar facility.”
