Arm Holdings has officially launched the Lumex series, its latest generation of mobile chip designs, setting a new benchmark for on-device artificial intelligence in smartphones and wearables.
The four-tier Lumex family spans energy-efficient chips for smartwatches to high-performance variants designed to run large AI models locally, without relying on cloud resources—a move that is expected to redefine real-time mobile experiences.
Lumex Series: Designed for On-Device AI
The newly unveiled Lumex chips are optimized for AI-powered tasks, enabling functions like real-time translation, generative AI, and seamless interactive applications directly on mobile devices. By supporting large language and inference models, these chips make devices more responsive and secure, removing the dependency on external network connectivity.
Arm’s Lumex Platform Includes Four Design Types:
-
Highly energy-efficient cores for wearables and IoT.
-
High-performance cores for flagship smartphones able to run larger, more complex AI apps offline.
-
All models leverage the CSS (Compute Subsystems) architecture to enable rapid integration for manufacturers and developers.
-
Optimized for cutting-edge 3-nanometer manufacturing nodes, as used in recent Apple iPhone processors.
Strategic Focus on Complete System Solutions
This expansion is expected to allow Arm to further penetrate the premium mobile and data center markets, providing manufacturers with ready-to-deploy solutions for next-gen devices.
These innovations are vital for industry growth, with launch events in key Asian markets underscoring Arm’s plans to address OEM needs where most handset makers outside Apple and Samsung are based.
Leadership Comment
Chris Bergey, Arm’s Senior Vice President and General Manager, remarked, “AI is increasingly becoming essential to various applications, whether for real-time interactions or impactful use cases like AI translation. We’re witnessing AI becoming an expectation in the industry.”
By providing scalable, energy-efficient platforms with increased compute and integrated AI acceleration, Arm’s Lumex will accelerate innovation across industry verticals, promising up to five times improvement in AI processing and significant gains in power efficiency. These advancements are anticipated to lead the market as handset makers race to introduce smarter, more autonomous mobile experiences for consumers.
The new Lumex launch marks a major leap toward an AI-driven mobile future, positioning the company as both a technology leader and an emerging end-to-end solutions provider in the evolving semiconductor landscape.
