SiPearl Secures €130M in Series A Funding To Develop Low-Power MP

French startup SiPearl has announced the successful closure of its €130 million Series A funding round. The investment marks a pivotal moment in the company’s mission to design Europe’s first high-performance, low-power HPC processor for supercomputers and AI applications.

Reducing Dependence on Foreign Chipmakers

Founded in 2019 as a key initiative of the European Processor Initiative (EPI), SiPearl is focused on creating processors that reduce dependence on foreign chipmakers, particularly for defense, space, and scientific computing.

The company’s debut chip, dubbed “Rhea,” is expected to integrate seamlessly with European supercomputing infrastructure and support advanced workloads in climate modeling, energy simulations, and AI.

The new funding, led by French public investment bank Bpifrance through its SPI fund, alongside participation from other institutional and industrial investors, brings SiPearl’s total capital raised to over €200 million.

This Series A round will accelerate the industrialization of Rhea and support recruitment efforts to double the company’s headcount from 150 to over 300 employees in the coming years.

Strategic Timing Amid Geopolitical Tensions

This capital infusion comes at a time when Europe is ramping up efforts to boost its chip self-reliance amid rising geopolitical tensions and global supply chain fragilities.

The European Chips Act, which aims to mobilize over €43 billion in public and private investments by 2030, sets the backdrop for SiPearl’s funding milestone.

According to SiPearl’s CEO Philippe Notton, the funding not only validates the company’s technological roadmap but also reflects the strategic importance of developing a sovereign European semiconductor ecosystem. The focus is on ensuring that Europe can maintain control over key technologies critical to its scientific and industrial competitiveness.

Expanding Partnerships and Ecosystem Integration

SiPearl’s approach involves close collaboration with leading research centers, high-performance computing (HPC) integrators, and ecosystem partners across Europe.

The Rhea chip is being developed with support from Arm’s Neoverse V1 architecture, and the startup is engaging with multiple European exascale computing projects for integration.

This Series A funding will also support the finalization of Rhea’s design and preparation for mass production, expected to begin in 2025.

It will also enable SiPearl to deepen its presence in strategic locations such as France, Germany, and Spain, where the company already operates R&D centers.

Symbol of Europe’s Renewed Commitment

As the global race for semiconductor leadership intensifies, SiPearl’s success story stands as a symbol of Europe’s renewed commitment to innovation and resilience in critical technologies.

By providing a homegrown alternative to U.S. and Asian chipmakers, SiPearl is positioning itself not just as a technology company, but as a cornerstone of Europe’s digital sovereignty strategy.

With Series A now complete, SiPearl moves one step closer to delivering Europe’s first sovereign HPC processor—an ambitious vision that aligns with the continent’s broader push toward strategic autonomy in tech.
