VIAVI Adds Colocation Capability at VALOR Lab-as-a-Service Testing Facility

In response to the growing need for thorough testing from Open RAN customers, VIAVI Solutions announced that it has expanded its VIAVI Automated Lab-as-a-Service for Open RAN (VALOR) facility to include colocation capabilities. The Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund (PWSCIF) of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) in the United States provides funding for VALOR, which is headquartered in Chandler, Arizona.VALOR facility expanded for ongoing O-RAN testing demand the volt post

VALOR’s colocation concept provides greater flexibility and capacity than its on-demand customer laboratories.

With a semi-permanent arrangement, customers can use the lab for extended periods of time and carry out thorough testing across the course of the product lifecycle. To guarantee safe, separated settings for every customer’s testing needs, network data in the lab is divided using VLANs, guaranteeing optimal performance and data integrity across a range of testing scenarios.

For Open RAN interoperability, performance, and security, the VALOR Lab provides a fully automated, transparent, and unbiased Lab-as-a-Service/Test-as-a-Service suite.

Customers have access to a state-of-the-art RF chamber for Massive MIMO and beamforming over-the-air (OTA) validation, including system-level Massive MIMO performance testing for up to 16 parallel spatial layers, in addition to the colocation lab and two on-demand laboratories.

With the help of reference O-RUs, O-DUs, and O-CUs, the VAMOS unified framework for hybrid physical and cloud-based testing, VIAVI’s industry-leading NITRO Wireless Open RAN Test Suite, and an experienced support staff, the VALOR Lab helps new Open RAN technology vendors test their products without having to make a sizable upfront investment.

VIAVI takes on the risks of developing Open RAN testing capabilities internally, which speeds up time to market and allows for more flexible deployment.

“We’re excited to introduce this new colocation offering at VALOR. With two available engagement models, VALOR can now service both vendors who are looking for specific tests during the development and pre-certification process, as well as those seeking longer-term, comprehensive end-to-end and scalable testing,” said Erik Probstfield, Senior Director, VALOR, VIAVI.

“This colocation framework builds upon the NTIA PWSCIF model. Focused on wireless infrastructure, PWSCIF acts as a force multiplier where federal spending is a catalyst drawing additional investment from private industry. Ultimately, this accelerates the development of open, secure wireless ecosystems with industry-wide investment value significantly greater than the base federal funding. We look forward to providing this expanded service offering to our customers in alignment with the mission and objectives of the NTIA and PWSCIF.”
