A Memorandum of Understanding to work together on AI-RAN, 5G, and 6G research at Hanyang University’s Beyond-G Global Innovation Center was announced today by VIAVI Solutions and the university, one of South Korea’s top academic institutions. Hanyang University will join VIAVI 6G Forward as an academic partner, and VIAVI will provide wireless lab test solutions and experience.
The Beyond-G Global Innovation Center was chosen in 2024 by the Korean National Research Foundation and the Ministry of Science and ICT for the Global Innovation Research Center (IRC) Support Project’s next-generation communication category.
The center intends to spearhead the development of next-generation communication technology and establish an international research network. The IRC Support Project is a massive research support program that awards more than KRW 5 billion a year for ten years to the best research projects in the country.
To overcome radio limitations in current communications technologies, the Beyond-G Center is implementing the world’s first Hyper-space based on:
- Hyper-resolution sensing – multi-sensor AI-driven radio sensing, quantum fusion sensing
- Hyper-connectivity communications – AI-driven highly reliable communications, AI-driven core technologies in telecommunications
- Hyper-intelligence system – high-efficiency radio wave control, highly reliable next integrated system.
The world’s leading network equipment manufacturers, service providers, and research institutions use the NITRO Wireless test and optimization suite, which includes a 6G testbed, to evaluate AI-RAN, 5G, 6G, and quantum technologies.
VIAVI will be contributing this suite to help the Beyond-G Center achieve its goals. Furthermore, an operator’s network can be mirrored in the lab using the VIAVI network digital twin technology, which combines tools like RAN and Core emulators, assurance solutions, realistic traffic scenarios, and cyber threats.
This enables network changes and challenges to be planned and implemented, and results can be analyzed before being implemented on the live network.
