Continental’s Automotive Group Sector Spin Off Expected at Auto Shanghai 2025

During Auto Shanghai 2025, Continental will demonstrate how its software-defined vehicle solutions enhance future mobility from road to cloud, as well as how it makes mobility safe, engaging, autonomous, and environmentally friendly.New Automotive Group in Continental at Auto Shanghai 2025 the volt post 3

Hot on the heels, a press conference with Philipp von Hirschheydt, Executive Board member and Group Sector Automotive Manager, is scheduled for April 23 from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the Continental booth (#2BC009, Hall 2.2).

Following the plan to spin off the Automotive Group Sector from Continental, the name of the future independent Automotive company will be announced at this time. Furthermore, breakthrough solutions such as the Intelligent Driving Systems Luna and Astra, the Central Light Computer, and the In2Visible Overhead Console will be unveiled at the show.

Luna and Astra: Scalable Intelligent Driving System Solutions

Continental, along with its joint venture Horizon Continental Technology (HCT), will demonstrate its scalable systems and sensors for autonomous mobility, as well as the launch of its intelligent driving systems Luna and Astra.

Luna, the entry-level intelligent driving system, provides active safety as well as aided driving and parking functions like Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning, and Integrated Cruise Assist (ICA).

It complies with the norms and safety standards of different global markets, including Europe, Japan, and India, with the goal of improving daily driving safety and comfort. The system is ready to be demonstrated at Auto Shanghai.

The powerful intelligent driving system Astra supports L2++ driving capabilities and can handle a variety of driving situations. For example, the Astra system solution can achieve urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) in China’s complex urban road environment, addressing narrow road detour avoidance, left and right turns without a traffic light, congestion, ramp scenarios, and so on, resulting in a safer, more comfortable, and convenient experience.

Furthermore, Continental will demonstrate its intelligent driving sensors, which are among the industry’s top solutions, including sixth-generation radar and cameras, assisting OEMs in realizing intelligent driving at a cost-effective level. The single-radar AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) technology satisfies Chinese national criteria at a low cost.

The corner radar supports a high-bandwidth mode (2GHz), which can replace ultrasonic sensors in parking, minimizing vehicle manufacturers’ efforts in implementation and assembly while improving detecting performance in cruising. Furthermore, Continental presents the AI-powered Night Vision Camera, which dramatically increases image visibility and clarity at night.New Automotive Group in Continental at Auto Shanghai 2025 the volt post 2

Exciting: Intuitive Interaction Brings Personalized User Experiences

Continental is dedicated to providing people with highly interactive and tailored experiences. The Window Projection transforms the side window into an outside display that may show consumers personalized content such as their favorite sports team, charging status, and trip details.

The projection, visible from the outside, impresses by displaying content in extremely high definition directly on the window pane. The Invisible Biometrics Sensing Display combines secure authentication, advanced safety, health, and well-being, all concealed beneath an OLED screen. The camera embedded beneath the display allows for novel designs and promotes user acceptance.

Furthermore, Continental will demonstrate its advanced lighting functions. The Central Light Computer achieves scalable and premium lighting control through software-defined methods.

It interprets vehicle signals to operate basic and high-definition light actuators, interactive social displays, dynamic interior ambient light actuators, and near-field projectors. The laser-beam scanning-based projection system allows for 360-degree high-definition dynamic projections around the car, displaying information such as navigation guidance, safety alerts, and personalized driver messages on the ground, including in color.

The In2Visible Overhead Console elegantly merges roof electronics with new surface materials, allowing for smart variant management while considerably improving usability and the overall user experience.  It also integrates an increasing variety of roof functions, such as actuators (such as the sunroof), Intelligent Glass Control, and sensors (for example, in-cabin sensors).

Software-defined Vehicle: Building an Ecosystem from Road to Cloud

Continental is developing a comprehensive “Road to Cloud” ecosystem for software-defined vehicles. Hardware and fundamental software serve as the foundation for the entire computing and networking infrastructure. The software solutions offer a comprehensive set of end-to-end functionalities that are combined with the appropriate edge ECUs, sensors, and actuators. Engineering and manufacturing services make up the infrastructure’s third pillar.

Continental’s High Performance Computers (HPC) and Zone Control Units (ZCU) demonstrate scalable server-zone architecture solutions for all vehicle lines, from entry-level to luxury. Its cross-domain HPC technologies help manufacturers minimize complexity and time-to-market while providing limitless opportunities for future driving experiences.

At Auto Shanghai, Continental showcases an AD-Cockpit HPC that combines cluster, infotainment, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) capabilities on a single System on Chip (SoC), marking a significant step toward full domain integration. Continental’s modular and adaptable ZCU platform supports a wide range of particular customer needs and vehicle versions.

Based on its holistic electronic and electrical (E/E) architecture capability, Continental can help customers to create an optimized E/E architecture, including the right number, position and configuration of ZCUs.

A Full Range of Innovative Technologies to Ensure Safe Mobility

Continental is promoting mobility transformation through breakthrough technology towards “Vision Zero,” which aims to eliminate road crashes, injuries, and fatalities. Several brake and safety technology will be shown during the exhibition to support this objective.

The Future Brake System (FBS), Continental’s roadmap to totally electro-mechanical braking, is on show in Shanghai. FBS tailors braking systems to the megatrends of electrification, modularization, and highly automated driving. The technology company will also unveil the next iteration of the Integrated Brake-by-Wire System. It combines the master cylinder, brake booster, and control systems into a single compact and weight-saving module, reducing system weight by around 30%.

The system is built on a multi-logic architecture and supports both distributed and centralized (E/E) architectures. Further down the innovation roadmap, Continental’s electro-mechanical brake systems eliminate the need for braking fluid, lowering maintenance costs and making brakes more ecologically friendly.New Automotive Group in Continental at Auto Shanghai 2025 the volt post 1

The “fully dry” method includes a new electric caliper. Continental will also present its sensor portfolio for electric vehicles, including a new product family centered on High Voltage Current Sensing and High Voltage Safety Modules. Intelligent battery sensors, tire information systems, wheel speed sensors, and chassis position sensors were also on display, all of which improve the safety and comfort of electric vehicles.
