In the automotive industry, electrification and autonomous and automated driving are megatrends. AI is essential to this development because it allows cars to do a wide range of tasks, like controlling trajectories, identifying traffic signs, analyzing driver behavior, and detecting pedestrians. Edge AI is a major enabler of this, since machine learning-capable AI systems and processors that can handle massive volumes of data in parallel, securely, reliably, and in real time are essential for autonomous and automated driving.

ASIL-D compliant MCUs from Infineon, such as the AURIX TC3x and TC4x, have machine learning capabilities built in to improve Imagimob, an Infineon Technologies company’s automotive machine learning portfolio in response to this challenge.

Developers can now build reliable machine learning models for the Edge using Imagimob Studio and load them onto Infineon’s well-proven AURIX MCUs. Using Imagimob Studio, machine learning models are first created to begin the process. Users within the platform have the option to directly deploy on the MCUs after the AI model is finished.

The process of smoothly deploying the code is then guided, making it easier to integrate machine learning on MCUs and facilitating the development of complex ML models. Furthermore, Imagimob Studio provides a sample project that demonstrates the design and implementation of a model for siren detection.

Users can also learn how to build acoustic models with AURIX MCUs and a microphone shield by utilizing the code sample. In addition, Imagimob has created new regression models that may be used to determine the amount of battery life left, the user’s health, and the duration of usage.

Advanced AI Use Cases With AURIX TC4x

The AURIX TC4x family of scalable MCUs provides an easy transition from the AURIX TC3x family of automotive MCUs that comply with ASIL-D. This improved performance is made possible by the TriCore 1.8 next generation.

To enable affordable AI integration, the AURIX TC4x also has a scalable accelerator suite that consists of many intelligent accelerators and a parallel processing unit (PPU).

These developments translate into improved machine learning capabilities for the AURIX TC4x family, allowing developers to deploy more complicated models or many models at once. For instance, although the AURIX TC3x can perform basic siren detection, the AURIX TC4x offers both siren detection and voice interaction simultaneously.
