US and India to propel a cooperative project to build a national security semiconductor fabrication facility in India. The announcement makes headlines amidst the 2024 Quad Leaders’ Summit. The goal of this partnership is to create semiconductors for use in renewable energy, next-generation telecommunications, and military gear.

Advanced sensing, communication, and power electronics will be the potential focus of this new national security semiconductor fabrication facility. With this announcement, this will be the first joint venture between India and the US in semiconductor production.

This is the first time the US military has agreed to collaborate with India to build a semiconductor fabrication facility. Sources with knowledge of the situation claim that it is a critical juncture on par with the civil nuclear accord.

Support for the partnership comes from the India Semiconductor Mission, and Bharat Semi, 3rdiTech, and the US Space Force who have formed a strategic technology partnership.

The project also involves building the GlobalFoundries (GF) Kolkata Power Center in Kolkata, as well as facilitating resilient, secure, and sustainable semiconductor supply chains.

Following the launch of the nation’s first national security semiconductor fabrication plant through a game-changing collaboration with the US, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has guaranteed her government’s full support to the proposed investment in the semiconductor sector.

India will receive its first national security semiconductor fabrication plant under a groundbreaking partnership with the United States. The plant will generate chips for use in key electronics and telecommunication networks, as well as military gear in both countries.

The third-largest semiconductor manufacturer in the world, GlobalFoundries, plans to construct a cutting-edge semiconductor plant in Kolkata, India. The GF Kolkata Power Center could be the name of the factory.

The Kolkata plant was established as part of initiatives to support a robust, safe, and sustainable semiconductor supply chain. There are plans to establish a semiconductor design lab in association with GlobalFoundries and a knowledge partnership to upskill instructors and students.

For GlobalFoundries, Kolkata has been regarded as a possible global competence center. Today semiconductors find their way into every technology and device may it be emerging artificial intelligence, telecommunications, national security, electronic equipment, consumer electronics, or your modern houses and transportation.

Worldwide workforce training programs and the deployment of 5G technology are among the areas in which collaboration will be expanded.

GlobalFoundries has identified Kolkata as a possible global competence center. There are plans to increase global workforce training programs and collaboration around the 5G rollout and next-generation telecommunications.

A joint effort to promote resilient, secure, and sustainable semiconductor supply chains was detailed in the factsheet that was released after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden met. This effort included GlobalFoundries’ (GF) establishment of the GF Kolkata Power Center in Kolkata.

They took notice of GF’s intentions to investigate longer-term, cross-border manufacturing and technology collaborations with India, which will result in the creation of excellent jobs in both of our nations.

In relation to the International Technology Security and Innovation (ITSI) Fund, they also commemorated the establishment of a new strategic alliance between the U.S. Department of State and the India Semiconductor Mission, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
