New ThermoLoop Will Be an Electrolyzer Killer – NewHydrogen CEO Steve Hill

ThermoLoop, a revolutionary technology that creates the most affordable green hydrogen in the world using heat and water instead of energy, was developed by NewHydrogen, which recently disclosed the key to its paradigm shift.

Practical Method of Splitting Water Using Heat

For decades, scientists have been trying to find a practical method of splitting water using heat. Why? Because the biggest challenge in building a heat system is the temperature mismatch between the different chemical reactions in the process.

Hydrogen is extracted from water in one process, which typically takes place at a low temperature. Oxygen is extracted from water via another reaction, which often takes place at a high temperature. Excess energy is wasted and no hydrogen is created while the system is heating or cooling. This is really ineffective.

A more efficient method of splitting water with heat that enables all reactions to take place at almost the same temperature is being developed by NewHydrogen. We refer to these reactions as near isothermal reactions. Thermochemical water-splitting is the name of the process.

NewHydrogen is creating new materials and chemical processes from the ground up in order to reach this “holy grail” of nearly isothermal reactions.

Consequently, system downtime is reduced when the first reaction temperature is near the second reaction temperature. ThermoLoop simply needs to be slightly heated and cooled in order to produce hydrogen that “loops” continually. This is a really effective fix.
How can we find the novel material?

To find a unique material with the ideal “goldilocks” characteristics to allow for scalable isothermal reactions, we scan the periodic table and solve a jigsaw puzzle using a variety of elements using cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning methods.

The Secret

Utilizing a new paradigm, we created a series of innovative chemical reactions that take use of our Novel Material’s phase shift characteristics, which allow its constituents to transition from solid to liquid to gas and back again.

We can lessen the temperature differential between the reactions thanks to this phase shift.  This is the secret to what we think will enable us to continuously produce hydrogen from water through nearly isothermal reactions.

Ultimately, we integrate all of these advancements to develop ThermoLoop, a highly scalable thermochemical water-splitting system that we think has the potential to generate the most affordable green hydrogen on the planet.NewHydrogen, ThermoLoop creates Cheapest Green Hydrogen the volt post

Leadership Comments

“We believe ThermoLoop will be a game changer compared to conventional low performance electrolyzer technology,” said NewHydrogen CEO Steve Hill. “ThermoLoop can be configured as a drop-in replacement for electrolyzers, making them obsolete. Simply put, we believe that ThermoLoop will be an electrolyzer killer.”

Mr. Hill continued, “Using heat, rather than electricity, is simply a better way to split water to make green hydrogen. Heat is cheap. It can be found everywhere, including concentrated solar, nuclear reactors, and waste heat from industrial plants, such as oil refineries and cement and steel manufacturing plants. Heat based systems are more scalable and have the potential to be cheaper than electrolyzer systems.”

Mr. Hill concluded, “ThermoLoop is agnostic to the sources of heat and water. If we simply couple ThermoLoop with any available source of heat and water, we can create an incredibly efficient, low-cost, clean and green hydrogen production machine – anywhere, anytime. What if heat is hard to get? No problem. Because the thermodynamics of heat systems are more efficient and scalable than electrolyzer systems, we believe we can convert electricity to heat to run ThermoLoop and still outperform electrolyzers.”
