As part of the TRCDRIVE pack series, ROHM has developed four models with 2-in-1 SiC molded modules that are designed for traction inverters used in xEVs (electric cars). The two 750V-rated models are BSTxxxD08P4A1x4 and the two 1,200V-rated models are BSTxxxD12P4A1x1.
With its high power density, distinctive terminal arrangement, and capacity to support up to 300kW, TRCDRIVE pack helps address the main issues facing traction inverters, including their need to be smaller, more efficient, and need fewer person-hours.
ROHM Innovating Electric Powertrain Systems
More efficient, lightweight, and small electric powertrain systems are now being developed as the electrification of automobiles quickly moves toward a decarbonized civilization. However, attaining low loss in a tiny size has proven to be a challenging problem for SiC power devices, which are garnering attention as critical components. ROHM uses its TRCDRIVE pack to address these problems inside powertrains.
TRCDRIVE pack is a trademark name for ROHM SiC molded type modules designed especially for traction inverter drive applications. It minimizes size by making use of a special construction that increases the surface used for heat dissipation.
In addition, ROHM’s 4th Generation SiC MOSFETs with low ON resistance are integrated, which leads to an industry-leading power density that is 1.5 times greater than that of standard SiC molded modules and significantly aids in the downsizing of xEV inverters.
Additionally, the modules include press fit pins for control signal terminals, which make it simple to connect by only pressing the gate driver board from the top. This feature significantly cuts down on installation time.
Additionally, by optimizing the current flow and using a two-layer bus-bar construction for the primary wiring, low inductance (5.7nH) is obtained, which helps to reduce losses during switching.
In spite of module development, ROHM has created a mass manufacturing method equivalent to discrete products, enabling a thirty-fold increase in production capacity over traditional SiC case-type modules.

Product Lineup
TRCDRIVE pack is scheduled to be launched by March 2025 with a lineup of 12 models in different package sizes (Small / Large) and mounting patterns (TIM: heat dissipation sheet / Ag sinter). In addition, ROHM is developing a 6-in-1 product with built-in heat sink that is expected to facilitate rapid traction inverter design and model rollout tailored to a variety of design specifications.
