In order to enhance Industry 4.0 intelligence in industrial applications, Orca Semiconductor unveiled the OS2000 IO-Link communications transceiver. Throughout the factory floor, the OS2000 touts to facilitate seamless, two-way communication between sensors, actuators, and control systems, increasing output, enhancing efficiency, and decreasing downtime.
On November 12–14, 2024, Orca Semi will exhibit the OS2000 at the SPS conference in Hall 8, booth 210.8.
This announcement comes after Orca Semi’s wearable power management integrated circuit (PMIC) device, the OS1000, was introduced in June.
In order to accelerate to a first design win and purchase orders for a revenue ramp with a tier 1 wearable OEM in late 2024, Orca Semi has been working with alpha clients since early 2023 to define the initial products, built a team of highly skilled engineers in Milan, Italy, and carried out three product tape-outs to date.
The new product has two control interface options: I2C and GPIO (general input-output). It may be utilized in both IO-Link master and device applications. Advanced functionality and diagnostics that are unavailable in GPIO mode can be controlled via I2C mode.
Two linear voltage regulators, one digital input channel, an internal clock generator, and integrated surge protection for input power, CQ, and the digital input channel are just a few of the features that IO-Link communication transceiver incorporates to make designs simpler.
If an external 5V source is available, the linear 5V voltage regulators can be disregarded. Designs can be made simpler by using the internal clock generator to supply the system microcontroller with an IO-Link timing-compliant clock.
It is compatible with the majority of microcontrollers thanks to its five distinct output frequency settings. OS2000 is made to be small and work with Analog Devices’ MAX22515, making it a simple and straightforward alternative for any application.

Key Comments
“We are continuing our aggressive design and delivery of customized, application specific analog products to fill the void neglected by Big Analog,” said Andrew Baker, CEO of Orca Semiconductor. “IO-Link transceivers are the backbone of Industry 4.0, driving intelligence on the factory floor by enabling seamless communication between devices. With increased factory data, manufacturers can boost productivity, reduce downtime, and optimize efficiency, significantly lowering operating costs and creating a more agile, intelligent manufacturing process. The OS2000 is Orca Semi’s first Smart Factory platform product to enable our more ambitious plans for more highly integrated innovative solutions in the near future.”
Availability
The OS2000 will be available for alpha customer engagement in December with general sampling in Q2 2025. Mass production is expected late 2025.
