Continental has expanded and inaugurated the production of its Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) for passenger cars at its Bangalore factory, in line with its ongoing commitment to safe mobility as guided by Vision Zero. The goal of this expansion is to greatly increase the manufacturing capacity in response to the growing market demand in India.
The new TPMS line is an extension of the current one, with intentions to increase further in the near future. It launched with a capacity of 3.3 million wheel units annually.
This cutting-edge TPMS line advances Continental’s smart manufacturing aspirations by utilizing completely automated processes with little operator interaction. With this extended range, Continental maintains its dedication to helping regional OEMs while simultaneously focusing on export markets, particularly Korea.
Ramnath Sivaraman, Head of Motion Technologies and Services, within Business Area Safety and Motion, Continental Automotive India stated, “Keeping in mind the growing demand and the evolving market needs, Continental has expanded the existing TPMS line. This validates Continental’s perseverance to meeting the rising demands for advanced, and affordable safety technologies. The launch of this second-generation TPMS will contribute to cleaner mobility and further advance vehicle safety by ensuring optimal tire pressure.”
Tire pressure, temperature, and motion are all measured from within the tire with far more accuracy by the second generation of TPMS. To show this information on the instrument cluster, it communicates it via radio frequency and the vehicle communication network.
Accurate and fast information on tire conditions is essential to maintaining the ideal air pressure, which enhances vehicle efficiency and ensures safety. The new TPMS line will first assemble the wheel units locally, with the goal of localizing kid parts in the second phase.
Phanindra Karody, Head of Bangalore Plant, Continental Automotive India added, “Continental continues to focus on localization. The newly expanded TPMS line also features cutting-edge smart manufacturing processes, including collaborative robots (Cobots) and digital traceability systems. This expansion of the line emphasizes our commitment to scaling up production to meet both local and global demands. Over the ensuing three years, the plan is to further expand capacity of our TPMS line and double our production to back our growth. This will further support Continental’s efforts in making mobility even safer, eco-friendlier and more comfortable.”
Significant advantages of Continental’s TPMS include better tire use, increased driving safety, less CO2 emissions, decreased fuel consumption, and increased battery range for electric cars.
Advanced TPMS capabilities like localized ‘trouble tire’ and easy-to-use smartphone apps like Tire Data and Filling Assistant further improve the device’s usefulness and worth for final users. Its lightweight design and dependable longevity of up to 10 years raise the bar for the industry.
A prime example of a smart factory is Continental’s Bangalore facility, which is the company’s biggest electronics production facility in India. Operational efficiency, accuracy, and transparency are ensured by technologies such as Cobots, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, automated guided vehicles, automated optical inspection, automated replenishment systems, and big data applications.
Continental has a strategic edge because of these smart manufacturing techniques that it has implemented, which enable quicker product-to-market solutions and quicker localization. This serves to further bolster Continental’s dedication to and standing as a pioneer in the automotive technology sector. Furthermore, the facility satisfies Continental’s environmental goal by earning a Green facility Label Gold certification, affirmed the official release.
