Network Observability Org. 3.5X Higher Chance Identifying Disruptive Situations

VIAVI Solutions announce the release of its 2024/25 State of the Network study in partnership with TechTarget’s Enterprise Strategy Group™ (ESG). The research, involving 754 respondents from 10 countries, focuses on the evolution of network performance and security tools over the past 16 years, assessing their impact on the observability and security posture of enterprise organizations.VIAVI 2024 25 State of the Network Study with TechTarget the volt post

As to the report, organisations with a formal observability strategy have a 3.5x higher probability of promptly identifying disruptive situations in contrast to those lacking one. Along with reducing incident detection times, this method also improves security (83%), expedites the development of new products and services (82%), and boosts compliance (78%).

Through data collection, analysis, and presentation, network observability offers comprehensive insights into network activity, performance, and health, allowing administrators to comprehend and control the network in real time. All network data sets, including flow, packet, and metrics data, are included in and utilized by true network observability.

IT teams may discover, comprehend, and fix crises in real-time proactively using observability, in contrast to conventional monitoring, which mostly focuses on finding and alerting on preset issues. Organizations may maintain greater levels of customer happiness, enhance problem response, and proactively manage network performance by implementing an observability plan.

With 88% of firms indicating an urgent need to enhance their threat management skills, the survey further emphasizes the crucial necessity of Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM).

A new approach called CTEM methodically assesses and ranks risks, enabling firms to focus on the biggest concerns and more efficiently use their resources. Organizations may improve their security posture and operational resilience by combining threat exposure management and attack surface management (CTEM).

This allows them to proactively monitor and mitigate changing threats. CTEM programs are becoming more and more popular; currently, the only techniques for controlling threat exposure that are more effective are patch management and vulnerability assessments.

“Organizations are increasingly recognizing the transformative impact of observability on network management and security,” said Chris Labac, Vice President and General Manager, Network Performance and Threat Solutions, VIAVI. “This report demonstrates a clear trend toward network observability, not only as a way of enhancing security, achieving compliance objectives, and detecting incidents, but as a key driver of business.”

“As discovered by VIAVI and ESG, the state of the network is ever more vital to business success, even as it is continuously stretched, evolved, clouded and threatened,” said Jim Frey, Principal Analyst, Networking, Enterprise Strategy Group. “Organizations are recognizing the challenges posed by sprawl in monitoring tools and increasingly complex hybrid network architectures, and those making the move – strategically or otherwise – to network observability are seeing significant improvements. In parallel with operational advantages, this move empowers organizations to pursue convergence of observability and security and enable important new strategies such as continuous threat exposure management.”

Summary of Key Findings:

Reduction in Incident Detection Time: Companies that have a structured observability plan are 3.5 times more likely to report substantially lower issue detection times.

Increased Security: Observability measures lead to increased security, according to 83% of businesses.

Improved Compliance: With a clear observability plan in place, 78% of firms report higher levels of compliance.

Critical Need for CTEM: 88% of organizations report a “critical need” to improve their threat management capabilities.

In June 2–6, in Las Vegas, VIAVI will be a part of Cisco Live! There, attendees may hear from Jim Frey and Chris Labac about “Future-Proofing IT: VIAVI Solutions for 2024” and “The State of the Network 2024 – Optimizing Network Resilience.” At Booth 6681, VIAVI will also be demonstrating its solutions for continuous threat exposure control and observer network performance management.
