Viavi 6G, AI, O-RAN, NTNs, VALOR at IEEE Conference

At the IEEE International Communications (IEEE Conference) in Denver, Colorado, Viavi Solutions said that it would be presenting research, solutions, and viewpoints on next-generation networking technologies, such as 6G, AI, Open RAN (O-RAN), and Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs). The VIAVI Automated Lab-as-a-Service for Open RAN (VALOR) will also be on display by the business.VIAVI to showcase 6G, AI, O-RAN and NTN Test Solutions at IEEE conference the volt post

6G

  • Full AI neural network transmission. At IEEE Conference, Viavi to demonstrate the use of a specially designed testbed for 5G-NR compatible OFDM signal (PDSCH) transmission and reception, along with VIAVI’s exclusive full neural network (NN) receiver in a downlink scenario.
  • MIMO Delay-Doppler Domain waveform. A modulation technique called Orthogonal Time Frequency Space (OTFS) was created to address the problems caused by the delay and Doppler shift characteristics of wireless channels. VIAVI will use a patented simplified precoder method to evaluate the performance of OTFS with OFDM in multi-antenna transmission.
  • Rate-splitting multiple access in an overloaded network. The purpose of this presentation at IEEE International Communications (IEEE Conference) is to provide a patented approach from VIAVI for the Rate Splitting Multiple Access (RSMA) scheme. This technique is intended to reduce multi-user interference in networks that are overcrowded and have fewer transmitter antennas than users.

High-Fidelity Digital Twin

In order to create a city-scale digital twin of a 6G network, VIAVI is working with the Institute for Wireless Internet of Things and the Open6G cooperative research center at Northeastern University on large-scale RF propagation channel modeling based on AI and ML technologies. Northeastern and VIAVI at IEEE conference will demonstrate:

  • Use of AI/ML to augment ray tracing for radio frequency (RF) propagation modeling to drive the digital twin
  • Conducting real-world measurement campaigns in the Northeastern Boston campus using the VIAVI Ranger rugged RF capture and playback instrument
  • Incorporating higher-layer KPIs in the digital twin, to more effectively model effects of network conditions on application performance.

 Open RAN and NTN

  • With funding from the U.S. NTIA Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund (PWSCIF) totaling $21.7 million, VALOR offers completely automated, transparent, and unbiased testing and integration for Open RAN. For newcomers, businesses, and academic institutions, VALOR offers a route to accreditation in the United States. Subject to availability, academic institutions and NTIA co-grantees can use VALOR at no cost.
  • An end-to-end NTN-NR testbed for the lab, assessing end-to-end user app performance over NTN connections, will be jointly shown by VIAVI and Rohde & Schwarz.

  • RIC Test. Using the VIAVI TeraVM RIC Test, an energy-saving rApp connected with a Non-RT RIC will be showcased. In practical circumstances, this rApp optimizes cell control using intelligent methods based on machine learning (ML). This results in considerable energy savings without sacrificing service quality.
  • O-RAN Security Test. The VIAVI O-RAN Security Suite will be used to validate O-DU/O-CU security.
