The TLR377GYZ, a rail-to-rail CMOS op amp with 1.8V to 5V capability, is an ultra-compact device designed by ROHM. The new CMOS operational amplifier (op amp) is tailored for smartphones, tiny IoT devices, and related applications, and is designed for amplifying signals from sensors like temperature, pressure, and flow rate.
Smaller components are needed as smartphones and Internet of Things devices get smaller. Op amps must continue to reduce in form factor while enhancing low input offset voltage and noise performance in order to precisely amplify small signals as required in high precision sensing.
It has been challenging to balance downsizing with high accuracy using traditional op amps. However, the TLR377GYZ CMOS op amp achieves this by further developing proprietary circuit design, process, and packaging technologies that have been developed over many years.
Op amps‘ input offset voltage and noise generation reduce the precision of the amplification. These issues can be resolved by increasing the size of the built-in transistors, however doing so comes at the cost of smaller dimensions. In response, ROHM created exclusive circuits that, without enlarging the transistor size, achieve a maximum offset voltage as low as 1 mV.
Furthermore, ultra-low noise with an input equivalent noise voltage density of 12nV/?Hz is obtained by optimizing the resistive components at the element level, while flicker noise is significantly reduced by unique process technology.
Additionally, the new product uses innovative packaging technology and adopts a WLCSP (Wafer Level Chip Scale Package) with a ball pitch of just 0.3mm. This results in a size reduction of about 46% over current compact items and 69% over traditional products.
ROHM also provide the IC-mounted conversion board for initial assessment and replacement considerations for SSOP6 packages. Online distributors are offering both the conversion board and the new product for sale. Furthermore, ROHM’s website offers the high-accuracy SPICE model, known as the ROHM Real Model, for verification simulations.
In the future, ROHM plans to further enhance CMOS op amp performance through the reduction of power consumption through the utilization of patented ultra-low current consumption technology, in addition to increasing compactness and accuracy.

High Accuracy Simulation Models: ROHM Real Models
ROHM Real Models are new high accuracy SPICE models that utilizes original model-based technology to faithfully reproduce the electrical and temperature characteristics of the actual IC, resulting in a perfect match between the IC and simulation values. This ensures reliable verification, contributing to more efficient application development – for example by preventing rework after prototyping. ROHM Real Models are now available on ROHM’s website.
