The Red Cat Drone Black Widow U.S. Army SRR Program Award has chosen Teledyne FLIR as its thermal camera provider. Cutting-Edge Thermal Sensing and Air-to-Ground AI Capabilities are provided by the combination of Prism Embedded Software with Hadron 640R+ Payload.
Red Cat Holdings has chosen Teledyne FLIR, a division of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, to supply thermal imaging and artificial intelligence (AI) embedded software for its Black WidowTM small unmanned aircraft system (sUAS).
Following an evaluation process conducted by the Army Project Management Office for Uncrewed Aircraft Systems, Army Maneuver Battle Lab, Army Test and Evaluation Command, and Army Operational Test Center, Red Cat was chosen as the winner of the U.S. Army’s Short Range Reconnaissance (SRR) Program of Record. The current procurement goal for the U.S. Army is 5,880 systems, each of which consists of two aircraft.
The Hadron 640R+, which is exempt from the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), offers a 64-MP visible camera and a 640×512 thermal camera with industry-leading thermal sensitivity in a package that is optimized for size, weight, and power (SWaP).
When combined with Prism AI embedded software, the combination can facilitate motion target indication, multiple object tracking, high-precision object detection within application-specific classes, and more.
A leading magazine recently recognized Teledyne FLIR’s Prism digital ecosystem as a Platinum Honoree, its highest award for innovation in defense and aerospace.
