India’s TEC, IIIT-Hyderabad to Advance Telecom Standards, Innovation

In a major development for India’s telecom sector, the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) and the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-Hyderabad) have formalized a partnership to drive next-generation research and the creation of India-specific telecom standards.

TEC, IIIT-Hyderabad to Advance Indian Telecom Standards

The collaboration, established through a Memorandum of Understanding signed on October 24, 2025, will focus on pioneering advancements in areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cyber Security, Smart Cities, and Quantum Communications.

By combining TEC’s deep expertise in standardization and IIIT-Hyderabad’s research strengths, the alliance aims to accelerate indigenous R&D and cement Indian Telecom Standards.

TEC officials noted that the partnership “creates a robust framework for collaborative innovation in future network technologies, supporting India’s self-reliance and security in critical communication infrastructure.” They expressed optimism that joint initiatives with IIIT-Hyderabad will streamline the development of home-grown solutions, while reducing dependence on imports and boosting India’s contributions to international working groups such as ITU-T and 3GPP.

IIIT-Hyderabad’s leadership emphasized the significance of this alliance highlighting it as “an important milestone in leveraging Indian academic and technical capabilities to influence the global telecom ecosystem and develop tailored solutions for national needs.” The institute will bring its extensive experience in 5G/6G technology, AI-driven telecom applications, and emerging ICT domains to the collaboration.

Executives from both TEC and IIIT-Hyderabad expressed their shared commitment to fostering innovation and building a secure, future-ready telecom landscape for India.
