At the World Resources Institute (WRI) India Battery Summit 2025, Tata Elxsi displayed the Battery Aadhaar technology demonstrator. This demonstration was a component of a consortium-led project that supported India’s goals for circular energy systems and sustainable mobility. The project was funded by the UNEP-led “Electrifying Mobility in Cities” program, which was organized by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, and NITI Aayog.
As an end-to-end Indian battery ecosystem enabler, Tata Elxsi presented the Battery Aadhaar concept to Hon. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and important government stakeholders.
The consortium partners included Tata Motors, Tata AutoComp Systems (TACO), IIT Kharagpur, WRI, LOHUM Cleantech, NUNAM Technologies, and Oorja Energy.
In order to facilitate traceability, regulatory consistency, and lifecycle transparency—from the procurement of raw materials to recycling and second-life use—Battery Aadhaar is a nationwide initiative to provide batteries secure, digital identities. Battery Aadhaar assists in preventing hazardous reuse, non-compliance, and environmental risk by gathering important lifetime data like manufacturer identity, usage history, and material composition.
Built on Tata Elxsi’s MOBIUS+ platform, the solution integrates blockchain-backed traceability, dynamic data flows, and automated compliance reporting. Through MOBIUS+, Tata Elxsi is enabling the foundation for a trusted, digital, and transparent battery ecosystem in India.
The demonstration included:
- Creation of Battery Aadhaar and Digital Product Passport (DPP)
- Chain of custody and lifecycle mapping
- Public and private data access views
- Role-based dashboards for OEMs, battery manufacturers, recyclers, and regulators
- Real-time analytics including battery health prediction and residual useful life estimation
The platform has been designed to align with evolving Indian regulatory initiatives and is architected to adapt to international frameworks including the EU Battery Regulation, emerging Japanese and North American standards, and future global battery passport specifications.
An AI Copilot layer is available on the MOBIUS+ platform for automated reporting, data quality checks, and regulatory interpretation assistance. Its blockchain features guarantee verifiable, tamper-proof audit trails, and its modularity facilitates the smooth onboarding of ecosystem partners.
Attendees at the India Battery Summit 2025 witnessed a live demonstration that included access to real-time battery data views via QR codes, providing a concrete look into the future of innovation and policy-aligned digital battery infrastructure.
