This strategic collaboration marks a significant development in India’s transportation manufacturing sector. The joint venture will focus on designing, developing, and producing high-precision railway components, metros, and other mobility solutions tailored to both domestic and export markets.

A Push Toward Atmanirbhar Bharat in Rail Manufacturing

The partnership aligns with India’s growing emphasis on indigenous manufacturing and self-reliance in high-tech sectors, particularly within the infrastructure and mobility ecosystem.

By combining Tata AutoComp’s manufacturing strength and Škoda Group’s global expertise in rail technology, the JV aims to serve India’s expanding railway modernization goals while also establishing itself as a major supplier for international railway projects.

Arvind Goel, Chairman of Tata AutoComp, stated that the move is part of the company’s broader strategy to diversify into high-growth, technology-driven sectors. He emphasized that the partnership is not only a business milestone but also a leap toward supporting India’s infrastructure development initiatives.

Petr Novotny, President of Škoda Group Components & Buses, noted that India’s dynamic railway sector presents vast opportunities. The joint venture is expected to manufacture key components such as traction systems, HVAC units, and other subsystems vital for railway and metro coaches.

Global Capabilities, Local Manufacturing

Škoda Group has a legacy of delivering advanced rail technologies across Europe and other parts of the world. Tata AutoComp brings deep expertise in engineering and scalable manufacturing across India. This blend is expected to position the JV as a major contributor to India’s ambitions of becoming a global rail component manufacturing hub.

The companies are currently finalizing locations and investment plans, and manufacturing operations are expected to commence in the coming quarters.
