JICA India Has a New Chief Representative for its India Office

With effect from September 23, 2024, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) announces Mr. Takuro Takeuchi as the organization’s new Chief Representative for its India Office. Mr. SAITO Mitsunori, who left JICA India after three years and one month of service, is replaced by Mr. Takeuchi.

Mr. Takuro Takeuchi has over 27 years of extensive experience at JICA, where he has held important leadership positions in a number of departments.

Takuro Takeuchi was a key player in creating JICA’s institutional strategy and management during his most recent position as Senior Director of the General Affairs Division of the General Affairs Department.

Together with his current role, he has held positions as Senior Director of South Asia Division 1, which is in charge of India, and Director of Human Resources for South Asia Division 4, which is in charge of activities in Bangladesh and Nepal.

On assuming his new position, Mr. Takuro Takeuchi said, “India is an incredibly dynamic place to work, with unmatched potential for global growth. At the same time, it presents some of the world’s most complex challenges. I am deeply honoured to work in India and lead JICA’s operations at such an exciting time. Our partnerships with Indian institutions have been pivotal in addressing development challenges and fostering sustainable growth. I look forward to working with the talented and dedicated team at JICA India to deepen the India-Japan collaboration and contribute to a more secure and sustainable future.”

JICA India Role In India’s Development

In 1958, Japan started providing official development assistance (ODA) to India. India was the first country to receive a loan from Japan for ODA.

Since then, more than 333 public sector projects in India, including those in the fields of transportation, energy, healthcare, and forestry, have received around 8,255.3 billion Japanese Yen (almost INR 4.4 lakh crore as of March 2024).
