Littelfuse Extended ITV Line of Li-Ion Battery Pack Protection Fuses

The ITV2718 surface-mountable Li-ion battery protector series from Littelfuse has been extended. Even during fast charging, these fuses protect Li-ion battery packs against overcurrent and overcharging (overvoltage) situations.

The newest addition, the ITV2718 surface-mountable Li-ion battery protector series, has a three-terminal, five-amp fuse with a footprint of only 2.7 x 1.8 mm.

The creative design responds swiftly, cutting off the battery pack’s charging or discharging circuit before overcharging or overheating circumstances arise. The new surface-mountable Li-ion battery protector series does this by combining an inbuilt fuse and heater element.

Applications for the ITV2718 Battery Protector in consumer electronics are wide, including:

  • Game consoles
  • E-call
  • Portable routers
  • Portable modems
  • Smartphones
  • Notebooks and tablets

“By extending our ITV line of li-ion battery pack protection fuses even further to include these new five-amp-rated devices, Littelfuse is providing electronics engineers even more options for their next-gen consumer electronics designs,” said Stephen Li, Global Product Manager at Littelfuse. “Continuing to expand our portfolio of surface-mountable, three-terminal battery pack protectors enables us to provide these product development teams with even greater, more innovative solutions in battery protection.”

The Surface-Mountable Li-ion Battery Protector Series offer These Key Benefits:

  • Surface-mount design facilitates automated printed circuit board (PCB) assembly;
  • Fast response time and low internal resistance prevent overcurrent and overcharging battery pack damage.
  • For quicker compliance clearance, UL and TUV certifications demonstrate conformity with industry safety standards.
  • Environmentally friendly, RoHS-compliant, and halogen-free components.

How It Works

In the event of an overcurrent, the inbuilt three-terminal fuse instantly cuts off the circuit. When the IC or FET senses overcharging, the heater element—which is implanted just beneath the fuse element—produces enough heat to blow the fuse.
