By merging the current Sensor and Radio Frequency (RF) businesses into a single, specialized organization, Infineon Technologies announced the creation of a new business unit to propel the company’s expansion in the sensor sector. The Power & Sensor Systems (PSS) division will house the former Automotive and Multi-market Sense & Control companies under the new business unit SURF (Sensor Units & Radio Frequency).
Utilizing cost and R&D synergies to accelerate innovation and value for clients, Infineon enhances its competitiveness and go-to-market strategy by merging its sensor and RF capabilities.
This calculated action will take advantage of the sensor and radio frequency (RF) markets’ enormous potential, which is expected to reach over 20 billion US dollars by 2027.One Beginning on January 1, 2025, the new business unit went into effect.
Sensor semiconductors are becoming commonplace parts of the real-world-to-digital world connection as gadgets achieve greater degrees of intelligence and autonomy:
Ambient monitors and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) enable context-aware devices; High-end microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-based Infineon microphones are already essential in wearables, smart speakers, and smartphones, allowing for AI-based language solutions for improved user experience; Infineon radar solutions allow for dependable object recognition, such as in autonomous driving; Additionally, Infineon’s current sensors enable improved energy efficiency in power inverters and batteries, while its magnetic sensors are essential for precisely controlling motion in electric cars and industrial automation.
“With the new business unit, we are addressing the growing demand for sensors and RF solutions, driven by trends such as green energy, clean and safe mobility, and smart and secure IoT,” says Dr. Thomas Schafbauer, Head of SURF business unit at Infineon. “Our dedicated business unit for sensors and RF allows for the expansion of our sales activities and combines our innovation capabilities, offering even more differentiated system solutions for our automotive, consumer and industrial customers.”
