SuperSiC New Wafer Manufacturing Hub in Penang to Focus on SiC Wafers

SuperSiC (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of Zhejiang Jingsheng Mechanical & Electrical Co. (JSG), has officially broken ground on a major new manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia—a move that signals big ambitions for its Southeast Asian footprint.SuperSiC new manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia

Tapping Into the “Silicon Valley of the East”

Penang—long regarded as “Silicon Valley of the East”—offers more than just a cool nickname. Its mature semiconductor ecosystem, strong talent pool, and strategic location make it a prime site for R&D and production. SuperSiC’s new plant is clearly playing to those strengths.

A Vision in Square Metres and Wafers

Covering 40,000 square meters, the facility is expected to enter Phase I production before the end of the year. Once up and running, it aims to churn out an impressive 240,000 eight-inch silicon carbide wafers each year—adding serious weight to JSG’s role in the global supply chain.

More Than Just Bricks and Mortar

The project isn’t just about capacity. It’s built on sustainability—with a focus on environmental responsibility and staff welfare baked into its design.

Strategic Priorities and Strong Partnerships

This isn’t SuperSiC’s effort in isolation. The project aligns closely with Malaysia’s major economic plans—namely, its New Industrial Master Plan 2030, Chemical Industry Roadmap 2030, and National Semiconductor Strategy 2030.

That alignment, according to Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim from MIDA, means the investment could plug a gap in Malaysia’s semiconductor capabilities and act as a draw for similar future investments.

Invest Penang’s CEO Loo Lee Lian sees this as a further boost to Penang’s status as a high-tech manufacturing hub, particularly in advanced sectors like silicon carbide wafer production.

Zhou Youbin, the Chinese Consul General in Penang, framed the project as practical implementation of the strengthened China–Malaysia industrial collaboration—something he called the “Golden 50 Years” in bilateral relations.SuperSiC new manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia

Leadership Comments

Dr. Cao Jianwei, Chairman of JSG, underlined the significance of this development. He said it represents more than just scaling up production—it marks the beginning of a new chapter in Southeast Asia, with deeper engagement in local manufacturing and supply chain resilience. “It’s about being close to customers and responsive to their needs,” he added.

Looking ahead, JSG plans to leverage this facility as a strategic anchor for further global expansion. Their focus will remain on green, intelligent high-tech manufacturing.
