A well-known figure from the textile industry, Ashok Mehta, founder of Suchi Semicon has a big semiconductor dream. He aims to give India the first home-grown semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility in Surat.
Suchi Semicon’s Ashok Mehta signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat Government in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other dignitaries at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024.
Suchi Semicon aims at an investment of Rs 870 crore to establish India’s first indigenous semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility.
After this major semiconductor announcement from Suchi Semicon, Surat after textiles can eventually make a major leap in silicon wafers.
“We are the first indigenous semiconductor manufacturer in India, right here in Surat,” affirmed Mehta. “Suchi Semicon vision is to become a global leader in semiconductor assembly, providing high-quality solutions that drive innovation, empower technology advancements, and enable our customers to create cutting-edge products that improve the world.”
Gujarat introduced distinctive policies for Electronics Manufacturing (2022-28) and Semiconductor Manufacturing (2022-27). Gujarat became the first state in India to align with the India Semiconductor Mission.
Mehta also mentioned, “Our expertise has already garnered interest from international markets like the USA and Singapore, with commitments for approximately 1 lakh units per day across various packages and devices.”
The Surat plant’s focus on a Class10 cleanroom, ESD compliance, and ROHs underscores its commitment to precision.
The manufacturing process will involve encapsulating Silicon die with meticulous precision, demands sophisticated. It will also comprise fully automated equipment and a controlled environment to consistently deliver top-tier performance.
Mehta emphasized the project’s socio-economic impact, stating, “The semiconductor plant is estimated to generate 1,200 employment opportunities. It will mark a significant milestone in Surat’s industrial landscape.” Operations are slated to commence in 2024, marking a new chapter in Surat’s journey toward technological innovation and global prominence.
