Toshiba’s Single-Pole Double-Throw RF Antenna Switch Now at element14

The new high-power SPDT (Single-Pole Double-Throw) RF antenna switch from Toshiba is now being shipped by element14. As 5G deployment picks up speed, a new Toshiba device enhances RF switching in a small package.

The growth of 5G networks is complemented by the SPDT RF (TCWA1225G) switch. This is due to the fact that expansion is required in antennae that are made up of a growing number of complex signal transmission paths that require RF switching in a small package with low insertion loss and high input power.

In response, the extremely compact SPDT RF provides an input peak power of 46 dBm (at 8dB PAR).

This implies that power output can stay constant even if antenna size is maintained or even decreased.

The growing use of massive MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) technology in telecom base stations—which employ multiple transmit and receive antennae to provide ultra-high speed and ultra-large capacity radio communications services necessary for 5G—Toshiba designed and produced the SPDT RF switch.

Super-multi-element antennae and complex signal transmission paths are becoming more and more common components of individual antennas. Traditionally, switching between intricate transmission paths has been accomplished mostly through RF switching.

But in order to prevent space constraints from driving up the number of RF switches and antenna size, the RF switch needs to be small enough, have a high input power, and low insertion loss. Both of those restrictions are removed by the SPDT RF switch.
