Why SounDigital 1500 W Class D amplifier Chose Infineon’s GaN Transistors
SounDigital has overcome these obstacles by incorporating CoolGaN transistors from Infineon Technologies into its new SounDigital 1500 W Class D amplifier, which has five channels and a switching frequency of 800 kHz. The amplifier’s energy efficiency has increased by 5% and energy loss has decreased by 60% thanks to Infineon’s cutting-edge GaN technology.
For its 1500 W Class D amplifier, SounDigital selected Infineon’s 100 V normally-off E-mode transistors: IGC033S101 in a PQFN-3×5 package and IGB110S101 in a PQFN-3×3 package.
The GaN transistors low on-resistance makes them perfect for demanding high-current applications, allowing SounDigital’s amplifier to significantly increase both sound quality and efficiency.
A 50% smaller heat sink is made possible by the GaN-based amplifier’s outstanding performance and 75 W power dissipation reduction.
Additionally, without sacrificing performance, the system’s overall size has been lowered by 40%. The CoolGaN transistors have further enhanced the audio quality by reducing total harmonic distortion (THD) by 70%, resulting in a more accurate and detailed sound experience. Energy efficiency has been greatly increased at the same time by a 40% reduction in idle current.
