For its industrial high-speed router, R1520-4L Global, SGS has granted cybersecurity certification to Robustel, a Chinese IoT solutions provider, under the Radio Equipment Directive (RED).
Strengthening the cybersecurity of internet-connected radio items supplied in the EU is the goal of the European Union’s (EU) RED Delegated Act on cybersecurity. Beginning on August 1, 2025, it will be required for wireless devices and products to enter EU markets; manufacturers will thereafter have to comply or risk legal action.
Robustel’s newest 4G router, the R1520-4L Global, offers wireless connectivity for industrial M2M and Internet of Things applications. Reaching the improved cybersecurity standard EN 18031 makes it eligible for EU market access and validates that it satisfies the EU’s RED certification 2014/53/EU.
SGS, a RED-accredited Notified Body (NB), provides thorough and impartial product testing in accordance with the strict specifications of the standard.
To find problems and reduce risks, SGS thoroughly reviewed Robustel’s technical documentation in close collaboration with the Guangzhou, China-based Robustel team. In-depth product testing in several critical cybersecurity domains, including as cryptography, data storage, logging, secure communication, access control, and authentication, came next.
Leadership Comments
Desmond Kuang, General Manager IoT Business Unit of Robustel said: “As a company committed to delivering secure, compliant industrial IoT solutions for global markets, we are delighted to have achieved RED cybersecurity certification from SGS. This proof of compliance with EU regulations will boost trust in our products amongst international customers.”
Anson Luo, Head of SGS-CSTC Cybersecurity Service, said: “It was a pleasure to support Robustel to verify its product compliance with the new EU standard. As more and more products employ radio technology in their applications, and many of these devices connect to the internet, security threats for products to be attacked and exploited increase. We look forward to supporting retailers and manufacturers around the world to meet the new requirements in the months ahead.”
