By successfully validating the first NR-NTN test cases in accordance with 3GPP Release 17 test specifications for RF, RRM, and PCT, Rohde & Schwarz, in collaboration with Samsung, is spearheading the commercialization of 5G-based non-terrestrial networks.
As a result, Rohde & Schwarz states to be the first and only test and measurement company offering verified coverage for 5G NR-NTN in all three test domains.
Samsung and Rohde & Schwarz are working together to commercialize 5G NR-NTN.
Using conformance test solutions from Rohde & Schwarz, both companies have collaborated to enable the validation of the first 5G-based New Radio non-terrestrial networks (NR-NTN) test cases in compliance with the 3GPP test specifications for RF (Radio Frequency), RRM (Radio Resource Management), and PCT (Protocol Conformance Testing).
The R&S TS8980 Conformance Test Platform, the R&S TS-RRM, and the CMX500 in frequency range 1 (FR1) were used to carry out the validated test cases as specified by PTCRB (PCS Type Certification Review Board) RFT 555 (Request for Testing), confirming Samsung’s most recent NR-NTN chipset as the device under test (DUT).
3GPP conformity testing is crucial for making sure that networks and devices adhere to international standards before a new mobile technology is commercially released.
This is especially true for 5G NR-NTN, which will provide remote areas with dependable satellite-based access.
However, because of the drastically different operating environment and the dynamic nature of satellite-based communication, NR-NTN testing poses difficulties that go beyond those seen in conventional terrestrial networks.
