The PWM controller ICs comes in four variants—the BD28C55FJ-LB for low-voltage MOSFETs, the BD28C54FJ-LB for medium- to high-voltage MOSFETs, the BD28C57LFJ-LB for IGBTs, and the BD28C57HFJ-LB for SiC MOSFETs—that are intended to drive a variety of power semiconductors are now in mass production.

Streamlining PWM Controller ICs Supply Chain 

The supply of semiconductor components for power supplies in industrial applications continues to lag behind demand, despite signs that the worldwide semiconductor deficit is starting to alleviate. This is especially true for PWM controller ICs, where a lack of supply caused by a small number of manufacturers has resulted in repeated requests for new product development.

In response, ROHM created PWM controller ICs that satisfy the demanding package and performance standards of the industrial industry, thereby resolving the continuous supply problem.

Power supply circuits use a wide range of semiconductors, depending on the application’s input AC voltage range. In the event of a supply or gate voltage drop, each of these semiconductors requires a separate undervoltage lockout level to avoid thermal runaway. To address this problem, ROHM has created four versions.

The new products are available in the standard SOP-J8 package (equivalent to the JEDEC SOIC8) and have the following specifications: maximum starting current of 75µA, input voltage range of 6.9V to 28.0V, circuit current up to 2.0mA, and maximum duty cycle of 50%.

Pin-to-pin compatibility between the products and standard products often found in power supply circuits minimizes the need for re-design and modification.

Every variant has an undervoltage lockout function (UVLO) with voltage hysteresis that is of the self-recovery kind. This lowers the threshold voltage inaccuracy to ±5%, compared to the usual ±10% of standard products, which greatly increases application reliability.

These PWM controller ICs are also intended for long-term supply, guaranteeing the uninterrupted running of durable industrial machinery. Products that can power GaN devices and high-voltage MOSFETs will be added to the list in the future.
