New 2-in-1 SiC Molded Module “DOT-247” by ROHM

The “DOT-247,” a 2-in-1 SiC molded module (SCZ40xDTx, SCZ40xKTx) developed by ROHM, is perfect for industrial applications such semiconductor relays, UPS systems, and PV inverters. The module achieves significant design flexibility and power density while maintaining the adaptability of the popular “TO-247” package.DOT-247 2-in-1 SiC molded module SCZ40xDTx, SCZ40xKTx

The combined structure of the DOT-247 is made up of two TO-247 packages. Large chips, which were architecturally challenging to fit in the TO-247 package, can now be used thanks to this design, which also uses a special internal structure to achieve minimal on-resistance.

In addition, compared to the TO-247, the package structure has been modified to minimize inductance by about 50% and heat resistance by around 15%. In a half-bridge configuration, this allows for a power density that is 2.3 times more than that of the TO-247, resulting in a circuit with the same power conversion in around half the volume.

There are two topologies for the new products that use the DOT-247 package: half-bridge and common-source. The most common PV inverters at the moment are two-level models, however in order to meet the demand for greater voltages, multi-level circuits like three-level NPC, three-level T-NPC, and five-level ANPC are becoming more and more popular.

Topologies like half-bridge and common-source are intermingled in the switching sections of these circuits, necessitating the use of unique products in many situations when utilizing standard SiC modules.DOT-247 2-in-1 SiC molded module SCZ40xDTx, SCZ40xKTx 1

The smallest building bolcks of multi-level circuits, these two topologies, have been combined into a 2-in-1 module by ROHM in order to overcome this challenge.

In comparison to discrete components, this achieves circuit downsizing, drastically reduces the number of components and mounting area, and allows flexibility to accommodate a variety of designs, including NPC circuits and DC-DC converters.

Evaluation boards will also be made available progressively to facilitate evaluation during application design. For more information, please contact a sales representative or visit the contact page on ROHM’s website.DOT-247 2-in-1 SiC molded module SCZ40xDTx, SCZ40xKTx 2
