The first integrated testing solution for the Taiwan Space Agency (TASA) was developed by Rohde & Schwarz in an effective partnership, allowing for seamless EMC and antenna measurements in a single chamber. As Non-Terrestrial Network technologies improve, the project highlights the increasing need for advanced satellite testing systems.
Rohde & Schwarz’s delivery of a fully customized solution to the TASA represents a significant advancement in satellite testing technology.
Rohde & Schwarz solved a difficult problem in satellite payload testing by combining EMC and antenna measurement capabilities into a single test chamber for the first time.
The cutting-edge equipment, which is currently in use at TASA’s facility, represents the increasing demand for sophisticated satellite testing techniques. Accurately validating satellite performance in complex situations is becoming crucial as Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) technologies are adopted more and more.
This includes making sure that satellites and cellular base stations integrate seamlessly, which is an area where traditional testing techniques frequently fail.
TASA’s dual testing requirement—a single chamber that could conduct both EMC and antenna measurements—was the source of the project’s complexity. A R&S ZNA43 vector network analyzer, R&S AMS32 tailored measurement software, and engineering services are all part of Rohde & Schwarz’s solution to this need.
A Compact Antenna Test Range (CATR) reflector, created in collaboration with a Taiwan third-party supplier, was also integrated into the system.
The project’s introduction of a patented diamond-shaped reflector design was a significant innovation. This reflector minimizes interactions between the reflector, feed, and Device Under Test (DUT) positioner as well as interference within the chamber. As a result, measuring complicated satellite payloads is now more accurate and reliable.
This project strengthened Rohde & Schwarz’s proficiency with third-party component integration. The partnership between TASA and a third-party provider demonstrates the company’s flexibility in meeting specific client needs while upholding strict performance and reliability standards.
The industry is facing increased demands for reliable and strong testing procedures as satellite-based connectivity becomes more and more essential to international communications.
From mobile networks to remote sensing instruments, satellites are essential for facilitating smooth communication in a variety of applications.
