The Yamanashi Plant, Rigaku Corporation’s primary production site, now has an additional manufacturing structure (henceforth referred to as “the New Building”). The facility for pivotally focusing on X-ray analytical was built to be the hub of Rigaku’s production system in preparation for the company’s international expansion and the rise in demand for its products.
Doubling of production capacity: a strategic base to support Rigaku’s growth
In Japan and around the world, the demand for X-ray analytical solutions has increased dramatically in recent years. Rigaku carried out this expansion with two main goals in mind in order to meet the increasing demand.
One goal is to strengthen the company’s capacity to meet the demands of quickly expanding industries like life sciences, batteries and battery materials, and semiconductors and electronic components.
The other goal is to significantly increase Rigaku’s capacity to produce the parts that underpin the company’s whole product line. The elements are the source of Rigaku’s competitive power and the crystallization of its fundamental technologies.
Rigaku intends to double its total manufacturing capacity by 2027 (compared with 2022, unit basis) in order to achieve the two goals mentioned above.
By increasing manufacturing space, building the New Building at Yamanashi Plant in addition to the expansion offered by Osaka Plant and outside partners, and cutting lead times to strengthen its supply chain, Rigaku hopes to accomplish this goal.
Yamanashi Plant: Advancing as a Comprehensive Manufacturing Base
The floor area of Yamanashi Plant has increased significantly since the New Building was completed, nearly doubling (2.7x) from 8,500 sqm to 23,000 sqm.
Once dispersed between Yamanashi and Tokyo, the manufacturing, assembly, and shipping processes for X-ray diffraction systems are now consolidated in the large Yamanashi Plant, which has resulted in a significant increase in operating efficiency and a steady supply of high-quality products.
Additionally, Rigaku is developing proof tests for Yamanashi Plant’s manufacturing process automation. The Company wants to turn the Plant into a “smart factory” that attains superior quality and efficiency.
An eco-friendly “plant in harmony with nature”
In order to minimize CO2 emissions, Rigaku constructed the New Building using environmentally friendly techniques. The facility is equipped with solar-power generation technologies and high-efficiency equipment to reduce energy waste.
By lessening its impact on the environment, the New Building is a “plant in harmony with nature,” helping to create a sustainable society.
Early in June, the New Building is expected to open, further bolstering Rigaku’s manufacturing infrastructure. Early in June, the New Building is expected to open, further bolstering Rigaku’s manufacturing infrastructure.
Leadership Comments
Jun Kawakami, President and CEO of Rigaku, offered the following comment:
“With this major floor space expansion, Rigaku is boosting manufacturing capacity and enhancing product quality to support its substantial growth. It also strengthens our ability to produce the components of our products, which are the foundation of Rigaku’s competitive advantage. This facility is the key to ensuring that our existing customers continue to choose Rigaku, as well as helping Rigaku acquire new customers globally.”
