The well-liked R-Car Family of system-on-chips (SoCs) for entry-level Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) is being expanded by Renesas Electronics Corporation. While carefully balancing performance and power consumption, the new devices, the R-Car V4M series and the expansion of the current R-Car V4H series, offer fast CPU performance and strong AI processing capacity.
They are perfect for entry-level, budget-conscious ADAS applications such front smart camera systems, surround-view systems, automated parking, and driver monitoring systems because of their outstanding TOPS/W performance and power-optimized features.
Renesas Scalable ADAS Portfolio
The new R-Car V4M series, which is built on the same advanced 7-nm manufacturing process technology as the new R-Car V4H series, promises exact object recognition using on-board cameras, radar, and LiDAR, as well as high-speed image processing and deep learning performance of up to 17 TOPS.
Customers may now choose the ideal SoC option from Renesas’ scalable ADAS portfolio with the introduction of the new R-Car V4M and R-Car V4H devices. To fulfill the demands of a wide range of ADAS applications, these devices provide cutting edge AI technology, performance, and power efficiency.
Reducing engineering costs and enabling OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers to reuse existing software, the new devices maintain pin compatibility within the same series and software compatibility with current R-Car products.
The R-Car V4M and R-Car V4H Series Feature:
- Up to four Arm® Cortex®-A76 cores delivering up to 81K DMIPS performance for application processing.
- It also comes with three Arm Cortex-R52 lockstep cores with up to 25K DMIPS performance for real-time operation.
- The new devices are extremely power efficient, providing 9 TOPS/W performance, thanks to their highly integrated design and leading-edge manufacturing process technology.
- In a typical full-feature smart camera with an 8-megapixel sensor, the R-Car V4M consumes around 5 watts of power – 50 percent less than similar devices on the market.
Renesas has supplied more than 450 million automotive-grade R-Car devices to date, including devices with the highest risk reduction level of ASIL D, or the highest quality certification.
R-Car Open Access (RoX) Platform Available for SDV Development
Renesas offers a full SDV development environment that includes the newest festures for automotive engineers developing with the R-Car V4M and R-Car V4H series.
With the recently released R-Car Open Access (RoX) SDV platform, automotive developers can quickly design next-generation vehicles with safe and ongoing software updates by integrating the necessary hardware, operating systems (OS), software, and tools.
With RoX, OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers can virtually design a wide range of scalable compute solutions for body control, domain, and zone control systems, as well as for ADAS, IVI, gateway, and cross-domain fusion systems.
The platform includes the AI Workbench and Software Development Kit (SDK), allowing developers to test and optimize their models as well as validate their applications all in the cloud.
