Renesas LCD Video Processor Enable Economical LCD Display for Passenger Vehicles

Renesas Electronics unveiled the highly integrated dual Low-Voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) LCD video processor, the RAA278830 Video Diagnostics Bridge IC. Many of the elements required to develop ASIL B automotive display systems that comply with ISO 26262 are included into the new IC, including electronic mirrors, digital instrument clusters, camera monitor systems (CMS), and heads-up displays (HUD).Renesas RAA278830 Dual LVDS, LCD Video Processor

Presenting the driver with crisp, undistorted images has grown more important as automotive safety systems rely more and more on display systems. Inaccurate warning icons, frozen pictures, and missing frames can all significantly impair vehicle safety.

The RAA278830 tackles these issues by incorporating functional safety features that explicitly prevent image corruption by monitoring both the signal integrity and the video content.

Frozen video, wrong colors, broken or corrupted video images, flashing, flickering, and video images that potentially block the driver’s view of the road (in the case of HUD systems) can all be detected by the internal diagnostics and measurement engines.

Renesas’ Automotive Video Signal Processing Expertise

Renesas has a long history of successfully serving the automotive industry with video signal processing technologies.

Renesas provides the award-winning Automotive HD-Link (AHL) family of equipment in addition to typical analog video decoders.

These products allow high-resolution images to be transferred over inexpensive cables and connections. The RAA278830 expands on Renesas’ industry-leading range of integrated LCD controllers, which are in use all over the world.
