Alibaba says that their most recent Qwen AI model, Qwen 2.5-Max, outperforms the “leading state-of-the-art models,” such as DeepSeek V3. 
Alibaba claimed that its Qwen2.5-Max beats DeepSeek V3 on a number of benchmarks, such as GPQA-Diamond, LiveBench, Arena-Hard, and LiveCodeBench. Additionally, it performed well on other tests including the MMLU-Pro.
Alibaba’s AI model was evaluated by comparing it to other top models, including the dense model Llama-3.1-405B, the open-weight MoE model DeepSeek V3, and Qwen2.5-72B.
“Now Qwen2.5-Max is available in Qwen Chat, and you can directly chat with the model, or play with artifacts, search, etc.” stated Alibaba’s Qwen in a blog post.

In an announcement shared on its official WeChat account, Alibaba’s cloud unit was quoted by Reuters as stating: “Qwen 2.5-Max outperforms almost across the board GPT-4o, DeepSeek-V3, and Llama-3.1-405B.”
TikTok’s parent firm, ByteDance, also joined the battle with an updated AI model, asserting that it outperformed OpenAI’s products in benchmark tests. This action echoed DeepSeek’s claims about the competitive performance of their R1 model.
China’s AI models began to compete on price when DeepSeek-V2 was released in May 2024.
