The achievement underscores both companies’ commitment to advancing wireless innovation and now enables Rohde & Schwarz to offer pre-built test routines on the CMP180 platform to speed up Wi-Fi 8 development.

To verify the advanced multi-antenna capabilities of its upcoming Wi-Fi 8 solutions, Qualcomm Technologies leveraged the CMP180’s powerful MIMO testing features across the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands.

The 5×5 MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output) architecture marks a major step forward, allowing Wi-Fi 8 systems to deliver greater capacity, improved reliability, and more consistent performance in real-world environments.

The CMP180 is designed for end-to-end chipset testing, providing full bandwidth coverage and scalable performance from early development through to high-volume production. This collaboration between Qualcomm Technologies and Rohde & Schwarz ensures that device makers can now access ready-to-use test scripts and early validation support helping them shorten development cycles and accelerate time to market.

Built on the new IEEE 802.11bn specification, Wi-Fi 8 takes the foundation laid by Wi-Fi 7 even further. It introduces a range of enhancements across PHY and MAC layers to boost efficiency, range, and mobility, while improving spectrum use and reducing latency.

Together, these updates pave the way toward ultra-high reliability (UHR) wireless networking. With innovations like 5×5 MIMO, Wi-Fi 8 achieves higher spatial efficiency and stronger link robustness, leading to smoother connectivity in dense, dynamic environments.

As Wi-Fi 8 rolls out, it promises to reshape wireless performance at home, in offices, and across industrial and enterprise settings powering demanding new applications such as extended reality (XR), AI-driven workloads, real-time cloud gaming, and ultra-high-definition streaming.

To support these advances, test solutions must offer unmatched accuracy, full-bandwidth coverage, and efficient MIMO testing capabilities. The CMP180 from Rohde & Schwarz was built precisely with these requirements in mind.

With the CMP180, Qualcomm Technologies validated key aspects of its latest Wi-Fi 8 innovation, including:

  • 5×5 MIMO performance for higher per-link data rates

  • Advanced modulation and coding schemes for real-time channel optimization

  • Distributed-tone resource units to enhance uplink throughput under regulatory constraints

Together, these achievements highlight a significant step forward in readying the ecosystem for Wi-Fi 8’s arrival, enabling manufacturers to bring powerful, next-generation connectivity solutions to market faster.
