ProtoCentral, a prominent India-based open-source hardware company, has officially introduced the HealthyPi 6—a significant leap in its lineup of vital signs monitoring platforms.
This sixth-generation model builds upon the proven foundation of the HealthyPi ecosystem while incorporating powerful new features, most notably a transition to the STMicroelectronics STM32H7 microcontroller.
HealthyPi has gained widespread adoption in the research and developers communities for its open-source approach to medical-grade data acquisition. Designed as a comprehensive biosignal acquisition system, it enables real-time monitoring of key vital parameters such as electrocardiogram (ECG), respiration, SpO2 (oxygen saturation), temperature, and blood pressure.
With HealthyPi 6, ProtoCentral has taken a major step forward by integrating the STM32H7—a high-performance Arm Cortex-M7 processor running at up to 480 MHz. The new MCU delivers a remarkable increase in processing speed, memory capacity, and peripheral integration, allowing for more robust signal processing and faster data throughput.
The STM32H7 not only enhances performance but also opens up new application possibilities in health research, telemedicine, and wearable development. According to ProtoCentral, the HealthyPi 6 is designed for standalone use or seamless integration with other platforms like the Raspberry Pi, making it ideal for developers, biomedical engineers, and academic researchers.
A key highlight of HealthyPi 6 is its focus on plug-and-play usability. The board comes preloaded with firmware capable of standalone operation while maintaining support for real-time streaming to external systems via USB and Bluetooth.
Additionally, the inclusion of Qwiic connectors simplifies expansion with compatible sensors and peripherals, enabling rapid prototyping and customization.
The platform supports both real-time and offline data analysis and features full compatibility with commonly used open-source data visualization tools. Its open-source hardware and firmware make it an ideal candidate for education, clinical prototyping, and advanced DIY bio-monitoring projects.
